okay we are ready
kayla
12:04
why are people so down on frazier’s defense? it isn’t *that* bad.
nubyjas wilborn
12:04
It isn't he hasn't shown great range but he does get to the balls hit to him and has a good arm
Jon
12:05
Was Cole Tucker the best SS in major league camp? Think we see Tucker or Hayes in Pittsburgh before September?
nubyjas wilborn
12:06
I don't want to go there, but Tucker has looked good. But keep in mind a lot of his hits were against minor leaguers. Tucker's glove will play up. I like Hayes as well, I wouldn't be shocked to see either of them in Pittsburgh this season
Jon
12:06
Why did the Pirates decide to go with Lyles as the 5th guy?
nubyjas wilborn
12:07
They like him. I personally haven't seen it, but they feel he's the best option they have.

Baseball tactics - when there are 2 outs, 3-2 count and the runners take off,  Isn't it an "easy out" to pick off the runner heading to any of the bases?
nubyjas wilborn
12:08
imagine what happens if you miss the throw
Jon
12:09
Welcome to the beat, by the way! Have any early impressions of Pirates fans as a group?
nubyjas wilborn
12:10
thank you, Jon! I've found them to be a passionate bunch who read everything and hold us accountable as writers. I appreciate that.
kayla
12:10
do you think steven brault makes the opening day roster?
nubyjas wilborn
12:11
Yes but it won't be easy, there aren't very many spots in the bullpen after Vasquez, Kela, Rodriquez, Crick, etc. The team could decide to keep him as a starter in Indy for when they need a spot start
12:12
As of now, Lyles is the lead for the 5th starter role. But he hasn't exactly owned it.
kayla
12:13
what are the chances the pirates use an opener instead of a fifth starter?
nubyjas wilborn
12:14
very low as of now. But anything is possible.
Justin
12:14
Do you think the SS battle lead has shifted back to Newman at all?  They've both been similarly awful OPS-wise, but Gonzalez's 11 K in 27 PA vs Newman's 5 K in 24 PA kinda make me think Newman is less overmatched (and has maybe been unlucky).
nubyjas wilborn
12:15
Gonzalez has been the superior fielder. If I had to pick I'd take Gonzalez because of the defense.
Jon
12:15
Are there any specific aspects of baseball that you especially enjoy writing about? Like for example, team dynamics, pitch selection, analytics, trends in the game, etc.
nubyjas wilborn
12:16
organizational dynamics. What it takes to win. Why do certain teams do what they do.
Jackson
12:16
2 weeks from opening day! Who makes the 25: Newman or Shuck? Why?
nubyjas wilborn
12:18
Good question. This tough, do u go back up infielder or outfielder... I could make an argument for either, I'd say Shuck, but it's close
John
12:18
Who wins the right field spot until Polanco returns and what happens to the roster when he does come back? Thanks.
nubyjas wilborn
12:19
Lonnie Chisenhall and they keep Lonnie as a fourth OF
kayla
12:20
can kevin kramer play any shortstop? he seems to be better than newman in the short sample we’ve gotten of them both.
nubyjas wilborn
12:21
We might find out soon. I've been told he can, but I haven't seen it.

Has anybody asked the FO what their reaction to a division rival signing Keuchel or Kimbrel would be? Keuchel to MIL makes a lot of sense and would really improve that team.
nubyjas wilborn
12:22
they wouldn't be elated but they also feel confident in the guys in their clubhouse
Justin
12:22
Is Diaz over his virus or whatever that was?
nubyjas wilborn
12:23
He's getting better. Honestly the team has been extremely quiet about it.
Jon
12:23
Jung Ho Kang still looking good in camp? Is he the everyday 3B?
nubyjas wilborn
12:24
defensively, yes, bat hasn't been there, but as of now I'd say he's the guy at 3B
Justin
12:24
who, of the players projected to make the 25, has had any 1b work in spring?  Cervelli is the only one i'm aware of.   I assume Moran and Chisenhall can, but it's weird if they haven't worked on it at all.
nubyjas wilborn
12:25
Moran has played 1st before. He might get some work in spring games soon, but his priority has been winning the 3b slot
Jon
12:25
Any guess on how long Polanco is out?
nubyjas wilborn
12:26
no, but he's making sound progress, felt good after hitting in minor league games and throwing on consecutive days
Jackson
12:27
What are your thoughts on the new rules changes? Specifically, the 3 batter minimum.
nubyjas wilborn
12:28
i need to know more about it. Like for example what is the penalty if a pitcher can't make it through 3 batters.
kayla
12:30
does kramer have any positional flexibility?

25 man roster prediction?
