Howof the game is Hurdle actually making the decisions and how much is being decided by the analytics
nubyjas wilborn
2:19
There's a healthy mix! Neal and the anayltics crew provide Clint and the coaching staff with the info and they decide how it's given to players.
2:20
Players can get more info from the anayltics crew if they choose

SN: Greetings everyone. Please forgive my tardiness, parking garage issues, but I'm here live from Comerica Park in Detroit

During a game what percentage of the decisions do you think are made by Clint Hurdle and what percentage are made by the analytics team upstairs ?

What's the problem with Kela?  Is it something the pitching coach can address and correct or is a mystery trip to the DL coming soon?
nubyjas wilborn
2:22
I'm not sure. I've talked to scouts who think he's tipping his pitches some. I've talked to others who say it's mental. In my conversations on & off record with Kela he seems confident and hasn't said anything about an injury.

What is your greatest positive reaction to the Pirates thus far, and what is your greatest concern?
nubyjas wilborn
2:22
starting pitching and defense along with hitting.

2:22
The hitting, particularly Bell, is my biggest surprise so far, what is yours?
nubyjas wilborn
2:23
I expected Bell to be good. I'd say the starters have exceeded my expectations and Jason Martin,

Any word on how Teke is doing? I thought that he might be an occasional guest on the pre game or post-game show, but haven't seen it yet. Made we wonder if he was well enough to do so.
nubyjas wilborn
2:23
I'll ask because I hadn't heard anything.

Why did Ed Bouchette leave?
nubyjas wilborn
2:24
He got what seems to be a great opportunity. I'm honored that I got to work with him even for a little bit. He's a true legend and will be missed. But as the great Nipsey said "The Marathon Continues" and we shall at the P-G

What are the particulars of Josh BellK
2:25
What are the particulars of Josh Bell’s contract and do you think he gets an extension?
nubyjas wilborn
2:25
@ he's pre-arb eligble next season as is Musgrove, Taillon and many others, next off-season will be interesting
Chuck
2:25
How soon before we see Gregory Polanco back as well as Corey Dickerson?   With the team holding a decent start during their absence it will be nice to have our regular outfield back hopefully soon.
nubyjas wilborn
2:26
Chuck, we will speak to the team doctor in a bit, my notebook will have updates, ASAP

If the Pirates were willing to give up years of control on Glasnow, Meadows, (+Shane Baz) shouldn’t they be doing more to maximize the time Archer is with the club. It seems inexcusable that they didn’t shore up the infield or that they haven’t considered Craig Kimbrel etc to shore

Gonzalez's numbers lately, he's been hitting better and fielding well. He might end up being a solid answer at SS

Our announcers are telling us that Joe Musgrove is a fine athlete, second only to Marte on the team.  Will they use him as a pinch-runner?
nubyjas wilborn
2:28
Maybe in a pinch...

Are the Pirates legit? They are 9-6 on the year so far. How do you tell the Pirates skeptics around Pittsburgh to believe in them this year and moving forward?
nubyjas wilborn
2:30
I think they have a chance to be, Pitching is there and that will keep them in games. If Polanco can come back and hit they have a shot.

Since Austin Meadows bat is gone,  are there any Pirate players in triple A that can help the Pirates bats with doubles and. Homerin potential?
nubyjas wilborn
2:31
Ke'Bryan Hayes and Will Craig.
Bucco Bill

With a payroll near the bottom of the league, we have seen outstanding starting pitching, but horrendous defense, a weak batting average as a whole and many bullpen blunders from solid relivers last season. One can't help but notice had the Ownership spent some money to sure up some holes and add depth maybe the Pirates could have 13-15 wins now. Your thoughts on pieces they could have and should have added this off season?
nubyjas wilborn
2:32
the offense has been a question mark. Maybe something at third because prior to last night Kang hasn't hit. Colin Moran might hit but his defense isn't there...

2:32
Current IL right now? When can I expect them to all return?
nubyjas wilborn
2:32
We speak to the team doc later today. I'll have an idea then and will post in the pre-game notebook.
2:40
We're still up! I see ya'll peeking. Let's get some more questions in

What do you think the Pirates will do with Craig when he is ready? Is there any position he can play that is open?
nubyjas wilborn
2:42
The young man can hit. There's always room for guys like Craig. They'll to get creative but that's what we call good problems.

2:42
Do you still believe in your 89 and 72 record?
nubyjas wilborn
2:45
Yes. I'll tell you why. I based it on my belief in the starting pitching and bullpen. The starters have exceeded my expectations and the bullpen has underwhelmed. In spite of five blown saves, the Pirates are 3 games over .500 and they're missing several key players. I believe if they get Polonaco back and he's right they have a chance. The bullpen won't continue to be as bad.

Should martin stay up when Dickerson and Polanco comes back?
nubyjas wilborn
2:49
as Clint said he's earned some playing time. He's starting today and got a pinch hit single in the 10th before Starling hit the homer. He's been good so as of right now I say find a way to keep him in the show.

In my 59th season rooting for the Bucs and i’m trying to talk myself out of feeling good about this team. I’ve seen to many promising April’s turn into disasters before August. But ... the starting pitchers looks tremendous, even better than hoped for. The bullpen has looked bad, (5 blown saves!!), but that can only improve. The offense is pedestrian at best, averaging 3.7 runs per game, but that’s with Reyes and Shuck as the corner outfielders, for crying out loud. Dickerson and Polanco on the way, and Cervelli, Kang, and maybe Marte too, can only improve. I’m beginning to think this team could make the playoffs. Care to talk me back to reality?
