I disagree re: how fans would react to a teardown.  I agree ownership wouldn't commit to it because there is currency in being between 70-85 wins and falsely selling hope if everything under the sun breaks the Pirates' way.  But fans are savvy enough to know this team cannot compete as constructed and Nutting will never spend to supplement the roster outside of dumpster diving.  May as well try what the Astros did and see if you get lucky on the prospects you get back.

But if the command isn't there, wouldn't it make sense to change the approach instead of being stubborn and forcing fastball command from guys who aren't commanding the fastball on a regular basis?

If can't command the fastball nobody will respect the offspeed stuff. Especially if you aren't throwing that for strikes.

It'll be hard based on the fact that his contract is up this year. Not impossible, but teams prefer to trade for guys under control.

Given the inordinate number of injuries to the pitching staff(especially starters)do you think they'll look into changes with offseason programs and conditioning in spring training?  I realize injuries are part of the game, but this season has been unreal up to this point.  Seems to me they should look at that seriously.

It's too early. Lyles didn't do the sim games to start the season and has been injuried. Archer, Jamo, and Trevor did the sim games and were hurt.

I may be wrong, but it seems as though after every start Archer talks about adjustments he could have or should have made. Can you ask him when is he going to start making those adjustments instead of talking about them later?
