Were any of the Pirates starting pitchers injury-free this season? It seems like an epidemic. Thanks!
nubyjas wilborn
12:01
Joe Musgrove was pretty much it. Archer, Williams, and Jameson Taillon all had injuries.
Brault, S

So am I the new Trevor? Look great for awhile, before that darn reality returns? Neal is counting on me for 19 wins next year, based on his statistical models, which are world renowned.

12:02
You're having a good second half and lefties are valuable. I'm not sure about 19 wins, but I do think that you've made significant progress.
Raymond
12:03
Should the Pirates stick with Polanco or try and trade him over the winter? He seems easily replaceable at this point, lots of outfield depth, etc.
nubyjas wilborn
12:04
What are you going to get for him? He's had some significant injuries. Teams are going to want to see him play before they make that judgment on trading for him.

Did you see I was ranked as the 16th best prospect in the organization!! That ain’t good. We have like 4 legitimate prospects......
nubyjas wilborn
12:09
Okay, let's chill on these. But I guess there's a question here. The pool of prospects is thin and that's a concern. The Pirates can't go on this way.

At some point I think it is Newman/Tucker as the 2B/SS combo with Frazier as the utility guy.  I am good with that, your thoughts?
nubyjas wilborn
12:10
Tucker has to show that he can handle the bat on a consistent basis. I like Cole, but as of now, there's no reason to move Newman or Frazier from the starting lineup.

If Moran could improve at least a little defensively, he’s a nice player. Can he improve a little defensively?
nubyjas wilborn
12:19
Sure he could improve some. But he has limited range. Where he could improve is in baseball IQ, A lot of his mistakes are mental. If he did those little things he'd be at least an average defensive 3B, combine that with 90 RBIs, and 15-20 bombs then you're cooking with grease,
Raymond
12:19
I'm kind of hoping Moran stays at 3B. He's really unpopular here for some reason, but I've always liked him.
nubyjas wilborn
12:20
Moran can hit. He's likely never going to be a Gold Glover, but he can improve as a defender.

Ever seen a guy have his best season at age 30 like Marte? I cannot think of another, minus obvious PED guys
nubyjas wilborn
12:26
Off the top of my head, no. However, with all modern medicine and treatment out there it's more possible than ever. Also, Marte is very attentive to his body and caring for it. Dude has very little body fat and moves well.

12:31
Does Reynolds have enough defense upside for center, long term?
nubyjas wilborn
12:32
I don't think he'll ever cover as much ground as Marte.

Reynolds has posted some crazy high BAPIP this season. What's his proper expected performance level once that normalizes?
nubyjas wilborn
12:38
The average BABIP is around .300, while Reynolds is at .394, but Reynolds has always had a high BABIP, in part, because he makes good contact more often than other hitters. There will be some regression but not as much as you might think.

I think they now have to trade Vazquez in the off season for desperately needed talent. Your position?
nubyjas wilborn
12:42
I wouldn't say that they *have* to but they should consider it IF the right offer is made.

What is the right offer for Vasquez?  I think catching and a young SP at least, you?
nubyjas wilborn
12:49
Yes, I agree, something of that nature would work.
Mark

Hi Nubyjas.  The Pirates need a starting catcher for next season.  Do you know of any that will be available that are within the Pirates self imposed salary cap?  Thanks.
nubyjas wilborn

Good starting catching ain't cheap because how many good catchers can you name in today's game? I think the Pirates will come back with what they have in Diaz and Stallings.
