Hey all! Welcome to the final chat of the season; crazy as it sounds. Very much enjoyed this Monday routine. Hope the 2nd opinion has been helpful, and that you all are still in the running here with three days left. Lots can happen on the field; how much can happen in the standings all depends on the tightness of your standings. Got a bunch of questions lined up; off we go!
Rick

Thanks Brent for holding these chats all season and for making Mondays a better day.  Since this is the last chat of the year, I'll give you and all the participants a break and hold off on asking my 137 remaining Dynasty League Questions until next year. Enjoy the offseason.
Brent Hershey
11:58
Appreciate that, Rick ... but dynasty questions are welcomed also (though appreciate your self-awareness regarding the number) ....

Are the Angels going to play Anthony Rendon during the last three games of the season at Oakland?
If so, would you start him in your AL-only team if you needed HR & RBIs in the last 3 games. Other options on my team include Odor, McCormack & Brennan. I can only start 2 of these 4 players.
Brent Hershey
12:02
Surely would seem to me that the answer is yes, given how they timed this re: his suspension, and the fact that they have nothing to play for. They could have just activated him with 5G left, for instance.
In your instance, yeah, I think I would start him. The downside is the wrist and all the time off -- might not have time to shake off the rust. The upside: good real-life lineup that he'll be in the middle of, and it's OAK, so not top-level pitching he's going against. For me, he's a better play than Odor (wonder if the BAL kids get extra time over the next 3) and perhaps Brennan. Good luck!

Where will they be 2023... Judge, Correa, Degrom, Verlander,Trea Turner, Bogaerts ,swanson,Rodon, Contreras,OHTANI? Thanks for all your help this year!
Brent Hershey
12:06
Ha! I'll get one right by saying with pretty strong confidence that LAA didn't avoid arbitration with Ohtani to trade him in the offseason. The rest? Outside of Correa and Xander (and maybe Contreras), I think there's lanes for the others to re-sign with their current teams. But following and speculating on all this stuff is what gets us all through the winter, right? Let's hold off on that until after the postseason.

6 x 6 Keeper league (ops added):  Gunnar Henderson or Cory Seager?  Thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:08
Not clear if this is for this week, or a keeper decision ... but I'd go Gunnar in either case; having some SB opportunity gives him the edge for me.

Good morning.  I am looking for a minor league eligible player to fill out my roster in a keeper league.  Will you please rank, Mervis, Royce Lewis, Manzardo and Emmanuel Rodriguez?  Thanks for all of the help this year.
Brent Hershey
12:11
Lewis #1, and it's not close. Looked so much better at the plate right before he got hurt. 2-4 is Manzardo (floor), Rodriguez (ceiling) and Mervis.

Curious about your thoughts on Jorge Lopez as a keeper in a league with Saves and Holds as separate categories? Before the trade deadline, he seemed like a no-brainer. But recently he has seemingly lost the closer role, his SwStr% has back-pedaled and he is not being used in high-leverage situations.
Brent Hershey
12:15
Given he was a late-bloomer in the bullpen, and hasn't put together a full year of reliever relevancy, I'd be a bit wary of carving out a no-doubt keeper spot for him. It's possible that depending how your K list shakes out, that he could make it ... the holds option opens that window, I'd think. But, given how he ended the season on a down note and will be searching for a new MLB team in 2023 ... there's just a lot of unknowns. I'd tread carefully in your situation.

Thanks from all of us, Brett, for these weekly chats.  I look forward to them every Monday.  One last question from me for the year: If I'm keeping one of these catchers in an NL only 4x4, who?  Fortes or Kelly? Thanks again!
Brent Hershey
12:16
Kelly; there's a really good season left in his bat IF (big ask, given the position and his history) health would ever cooperate.

Hi Brent- really good advice but my season didn't really work out as I hoped. More of an exercise in risk management: Start Oviedo over putting Freddy Peralta or Ashby in the lineup? Don't want to damage ratios whoever ends up in the slot.
Brent Hershey
12:18
If you're protecting ratios, I'd not have Oviedo in there for his final start. Trying to pile Ks or playing a long-shot? Then maybe. But all depends on your needs.

Onto keepers, NL-only! I generally I keep only two pitchers out of 8 keepers. But given who's on my roster, I could consider 3 (4?): Jordan Montgomery, Lodolo, Braxton Garrett, Roansy, Freddy Peralta, Falter, Logan Web, Ashby and Trevor Rogers. Strangely enough, my pitching this year was a disaster, and I blame Rogers!
Brent Hershey
12:25
Ooo, fun one. Given just 8 keepers total, I'd probably attempt to focus more on 2023 only (since given who you'll have to drop here, there will be SP talent in the FA pool come draft day). I'd probably trust Peralta, Webb, Lodolo the most. I also like Rogers a lot as 2023 rebound, so an important question is how will your league mates feel about him. Are they more likely to write him off b/c of 2022 (depressing his draft day price), or are they savvy enough to want him as a bounce back? If it's the latter, then I might keep as a 4th  ... though really depends on your hitting keepers, too. Big fan of Roansy and Garrett as well, but not enough track record to keep given your other choices.

So how for real is Gunnar Henderson and what do you expect out of him next year?
Brent Hershey
12:27
Very 'for real'; progress and adjustments he's made during his rise through the minors, and now in his short MLB sample, bode very well for MLB success. BAL has options regarding where they want him to play defensively; my hope is that they decide on either 3B or SS and just let him play there. I expect well-rounded stat lines starting next year.

Last question of the season---need batting average in NL only for  two days-dela cruz, bouchard (going against two lefties), pirates-Bae, andujar, newman, cruz, mitchell or anyone else you can think of for a hail mary?
Brent Hershey
12:29
I'd go with De la Cruz or Andujar.

Need to lock up a ‘ship with my final spot start. In a league where wins are heavily weighted, do I start Gonsolin coming off of the IL vs COL, Elder vs MIA, or do I start Ober vs CWS?
Brent Hershey
12:33
So much we don't know; we just do what we can. Gonsolin is out for me in a spot where Wins would help; just don't know how deep they'll let him go. Elder's been better recently than Ober, ATL batters>>MIN, MIA the worse offense of the two. Think I'd slightly lean that way, even though Ober has the longer (ok, not much) track record.

Squeezing out the last bit of stats in the short week.  Want to pull a starter for a reliever with Wins being the main issue.  Feel like Fried is less likely to go 5 than Eovaldi given he starts last day of the year and probably just a tune up.  I am getting too deep in the weeds here?
Brent Hershey
12:34
No, think that's very fair assumption on Fried.
Brent Hershey
12:35
Will say in general that this half-week to end the season, while frustrating in one sense, adds another element of intrigue, given these conflicting MLB team needs (out of it, playoff tuneups, etc). Having that on the short week, and us having to make lineup decisions with that in mind, definitely adds something to the mix this year.

Do you think Wells is Yankee starting catcher next year or is 2024 more realistic? What about Naylor now that he got his 4k game out of the way?
Brent Hershey
12:38
Wells has so much work to do defensively; I think there's even questions whether he ends up at CA in the majors. So no, he's not the Yanks' starting CA next season.
Naylor, on the other hand, winning that full-time job out of camp in 2023 would not surprise me at all. Much more well-rounded, bat rejuvenated after a terrible 2021, less pressure in CLE, etc. Will be bumps, but he'll hold the playing time advantage over Wells in 2023.

12-team AL-only traditional 5X5; $260 cap; keeper league. Do you foresee any of Rafael Montero, John Schreiber or Dillon Tate getting the closer role in an AL bullpen next year?
Brent Hershey
12:42
Don't think any of those guys are good bets from this vantage point. Don't think Montero has done enough to warrant someone signing him to close, Tate has Bautista in front; Schreiber only a stop-gap this season in BOS.

Dylan Carlson has been a disappointment this year in my NL 5x5 roto league.  Yes, he's very young, but I didn't see the growth I was hoping for.  What do you think of his future?
Brent Hershey
12:45
Someone I'm looking forward to digging into further during book season/the offseason; definitely a disappointment. I'd not give up yet b/c of the youth and pedigree, but have to wonder if the ceiling has lowered for him. Def makes for an interesting keeper decision; one that would be fantasy-team dependent for me.

12-team AL-only traditional 5X5; $260 cap; keeper league. I just picked up Simeon Woods-Richardson for $2 - do you think he wins a spot in the Twins rotation next spring? Is a rookie pitcher like him too risky to keep, even in an only-league?
Brent Hershey
12:47
Traditionally, yes -- rookie pitchers provide a terrible ROI. But there are exceptions, and having the option of a $2 S W-R going into 2023 spring training can't hurt. My sense is he'll still have to dominate like crazy to find a spot there (even before any FA pitchers are considered). But -- don't have to make keeper decisions until spring; this makes all the sense in the world.

Thanks for feedback. I hope you did well in your leagues, as I have mine. Herget was a surprise, will he be next year? If not, who closes next year for the Angels?
Brent Hershey
12:50
Mixed year for me results-wise, some big winners but a few duds also. But stoked for you; congrats! I doubt Herget hangs onto that role; my guess would be that there is a spring competition with him, other current Angels, and a low-cost FA signing or two.

Thanks - I’ll miss these chats! 2 questions:
12:51
  1. would you pitch B Falter against Houston on the last day? Would you trust him or grab a less dangerous reliever?  2. Is Andujar worth a pick up?
