OK let’s get started

Paul..now the QB-less Steelers begin the long walk in the AFC Desert, wistfully looking at the Oasis' of Allen, Mahomes, Burrow, Herbert, Wilson, Jackson and Watson(?).  How do they stay relevant?
Zeise
12:09
In the time between Bradshaw and Ben the Steelers made the playoffs a bunch, got to like six AFC title games and a Super Bowl. They didn’t win the Super Bowl but they were more than relevant

Zeise,  Alex Smith for Roethlisberger in 2010, do you pull the trigger?  Do you think it is fact or fiction?
Zeise
12:11
I think it is a bull—- story by Singletary. I don’t believe a word of it and the thing that tells me it is nonsense is the timing of it, the year it allegedly happened and how it allegedly happened
Rip Engle

Do you think Penn State's last football season would have been better, worse, or the same, if they'd kept Will Levis and lost Clifford? It might have been better if Levis hadn't been hurt for Iowa and Illinois so leave those games out and look at the other ten.
Zeise
12:15
OK sorry I had to take a phone call. Let’s get rolling - I think Penn State has been a tough place for quarterbacks. I hope that he figures this out and they have better and more consistency from that position. They need to as they won’t be able to keep up with Ohio State

Hi Paul do you think with a new defensive coordinator the Steelers will still play 3-4 Defense Or do you think they will switch to a 4-3 defense
Zeise
12:18
The new defensive coordinator will be the old defensive coordinator - Mike Tomlin
EV
12:18
Do you expect the Steelers to pick a QB in the first round?
Zeise
12:19
Nope. I think they will go offensive or defensive lime

12:20
Paul,if I were the Steeler's GM I would draft offensive and defensive line help along with an inside linebacker. As far as drafting Kenny Pickett if available,I don't think that would serve the young man well. The Pittsburgh fans would eat him alive. As much as I loved Dan Marino at Pitt,I think the best thing that happened to him was not getting drafted by the Steelers.Your thoughts.
Zeise
12:20
You can’t worry about fans being mean to Pickett. He is a tough guy and if he is good enough he would be fine. I just don’t see it happening

Hi Paul   So as has been often discussed the Steelers were strapped against the cap last season but chose to keep a $4million special team player (DWatt), When That money could have been used to keep M Hilton or M Feiler? Scratching my head?
Zeise
12:22
Two things “cap hell” with this franchise is way overstated. Omar Khan and company figure it out. They could have kept Mike Hilton but chose not to

Paul,  Is franchise QB overrated especially with the QB salary escalating and then of course the evolving of the position?  Can't expect a guy to go out there and play such a demanding position for more than 10 pus years.  I know No. 7 did it  for 18,  but let's be honest,  his agility had been diminished and accuracy, especially downfield, was clearly not the same as let's say,  ten years ago.  God Bless and Thank You,  Ben Roethlisberger!  You too Paul!
Zeise
12:25
I don’t know if overrated is the right word but the idea you can’t win without one is silly. I would offer this - who has had more success in the last decade the 49ers or the Steelers and Packers? The 49ers haven’t had one but have a really good team around their QB and get to the Super Bowl. Now I do think life is easier if you have one on a rookie deal. But Manning and Brady both won Super Bowls with $25 million+ salaries

I agree with far more of your opinions than not but I'd like to hear a bit more about the NFL overtime rule. I can see where playing defense, kicking, pinning your opponent deep, getting field position and kicking a field goal, could work if it's a 10-10, 14-14, kind of game. But last Sunday there were 25 points scored in the last two minutes. No one could play defense but the rules forced one team to try and let the other off the hook. One team needed to be successful at two things and the other could win by being successful at only one. I don't see how this is good.
Zeise
12:28
So the overtime rules should change based on how well the defenses are playing? My point is simple - it always comes down to making plays. Make a play. The Bills have some big name, highly paid stars on defense. Go make a play. Go show us you deserve to be a star. The OT rules are fine. The one tweak I would make - home field advantage should determine who had the option to kick or receive, this way it is earned and not luck. Other than that it is fine. Don’t let a team drive 75 yards on you if you want your QB to get the ball

Paul, if my cranium only grew two times the normal volume, rather than the unprecedented 3.5 times expansion that was reportedly recorded, would I be joining that Papi dude in the hall?
Zeise
12:29
Nope. You were a jerk to people and offenses the sensitivities of media guys who paid you back by not voting for you….
declining standard
12:30
How much better is the franchise if we traded Tomlin to New Orleans, and convinced Payton to be our coach?
Zeise
12:30
I think Payton and Tomlin might be the same guy

Paul: The only non-HOF QBs to win sbowls since 2001 are Dilfer, Johnson, Flacco and Foles.  AFC loaded at QB now with Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, Burrow and LJack.  Should the Steelers not look hard at a Rodgers deal?  Most proposals seem to be 2 firsts and 2 or 3 seconds.  We will be using a 1st on a QB in this draft or next, so really only parting with one first rounder.  What do you think?
Zeise
12:31
The Steelers aren’t giving up first round picks nor should they. They are trying to rebuild and reload, they aren’t giving up picks
JR
12:31
Paul your point of view on Pitt QB Slovis
Zeise
12:32
I haven’t seen enough of him but let me say this - I like his chances a lot better now that Frank Cignetti is the offensive coordinator. Dude is a great coach. Pitt’s offense might be better next year than it was last year

12:32
A lot of attention and some angst even toward OT rules.  Has the idea of simply extending the game with that same set of rules been eliminated from consideration.  Both teams play the 10th or 11th innings in the MLB.  A HR in the top of the tenth doesn’t just end the game.   Put 10 min on the clock and confide playing until the clock reaches zero.
Zeise
12:34
I don’t have an issue with that but I think in the playoffs teams could be playing for a long time and I don’t think the NFLPA will go for it
AR Deuce
12:34
Paul, think anyone noticed that we played a grieving player $11M not to play, yet we apparently scrape every couple hundred grand out of that assistant coach allotment?  Yeah, I'm hoping not, I have my answers memorized for those pesky running game improvement and Oh Canada questions....
Zeise
12:36
Well you will talk to the media tomorrow so I’m sure many of these questions will get answered!!
Charlie
12:37
The civilized world of golf is asking less skilled and obviously aging players to swallow their egos and play a tee forward, regardless of age or stature in the local sports media market, for the sake of the game. What say you, leaving aside any thoughts, if possible, on your own game?
Zeise
12:37
I’m not old enough I keep telling you. If they let me go up to the forward tees I would love too!!

12:37
Now Tomlin can use rebuilding as an excuse for the next 5 years.
Zeise
12:37
The Steelers don’t rebuild!!

Mike Tomlin gets the most blame for the lack of success in the playoffs, but Ben was awful in the playoffs going back to the last super bowl appearance (where he threw 2 picks, one of them returned for 6).  Prior to the game against KC he had 7 turnovers in the previous 2 playoff games. Why is Bens playoff performance never mentioned?
Zeise
12:38
I agree it is why I say that for all the accolades Ben and Tomlin have fallen way short for the last decade

Hi Paul, I would say no to veteran QBs such as Rodgers, Watson, and Wilson, but Derek Carr intrigues me because of his relatively young age. However, he is entering the final year of contract and his salary will go up north of $30~35M. Would you trade for someone like Carr or just focus on building OL/DL with MR or DH3 as your QB for time being?
Zeise
12:39
I don’t see them going with a quarterback that is going to cost a lot of money, period
DB
12:39
Paul, the truth, did I display 10th overall pick tackling abilities before my devastating knee injury? I've always been a fairly big guy that could run and do those silly agility tests, but not necessarily play, correct? Man, these honest self-evaluations are brutal.....
