Ok let’s get started

Where do most of the Pittsburgh pro athletes and coaches live? The North Hills?
Zeise
11:38
All over actually - Sewickley seems to be a hot spot, north hills, Southside and downtown as well

Hey PZ!  Love your work!  Think the Steelers can upgrade depth at both T and OLB this summer.  Ryan Kerrigan is a player I’m interested in and think would be a good Steeler without breaking the bank. Thoughts?
Zeise

I think there will be some tackles available to be honest. They will get cut and waived for younger guys, they always seem to be available late in training camp and guys who can still play but maybe were too much money

Paul, after seeing Jarry wrapped up and limping heavily in the postgame, I don't see how he could have kept playing much longer anyway....Beyond the blowing of leads in individual games and, ultimately the series, one of the most frustrating things about this exit is that we didn't even really get to learn anything about a reassessment of whether Jarry  can be the guy they need back there in the postseason.  So regardless of whether the Pens keep the core or retool, we still have to wonder about the goaltending.   What is your level of confidence that Jarry can continue to project his career upwards unlike Murray, whose decline can at least be indirectly tracked to any/all residual questions at the position?  Thanks!
Zeise
11:41
Jarry will and should start next season as the starter
11:42
But they are moving on from DeSmith likely which means they will have an opportunity to get some insurance for Jarry. I don’t know with his injury history and playoff flame out last year if I’m ready to give him a long term big dollar deal but would make it clear next year is a prove it year

Hi Paul, I'm not much of a hockey fan (anymore) but these Pens teams of late, much like the Lemieux teams of the early 90s, should have more championships, right?
Zeise
11:44
It is hard to win a championship. So much has to go right and you have to be a little lucky as well. So that’s a tough standard. What I would say is they are too talented to have four straight first round losses, especially given some of the teams they lost to

Hi Paul. I told everybody I need to get my swagger back. I hope they resign me. If not, I hope they have Get-Go's out in Vancouver, my former GM is out there. He may want me. Heading into a Get-Go's now to see Chef Thom as we speak ......

It is pretty clear you need to get your moving company on the phone. I can’t imagine they are bringing you back

Can the fans expect anything above .500 to watch the Pirates  play this season? Or is it another losing seasons below .500.
Zeise
11:45
Wait, .500? Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Playing players that stink, I mean stink, (did I say stink)  is not my idea of major league baseball. How much worse can it be to bring up the kids and let them learn on the job? I'd rather see that than journeymen has beens and wanna be's.
Zeise
11:47
They aren’t not bringing guys up because they aren’t better than the guys on the roster. It is all the service time and formula for minor league reps they have and are beholden to

Hi Paul, a PG commentator labeled this hitless edition of the Pittsburgh Pirates the "Slumber Company" which really hits home with fans, like me, who remember the 70s and how baseball, at least in Pittsburgh, is not even a shadow of what it was.  Mr Nutting has killed it.
Zeise
11:49
It was on life support long before he took over.  He certainly has not done a lot to bring it back from the brink of death that’s for sure

My question is what do you think happens first:  (i) the Pirates win a World Series; (ii) the Steelers win a Super Bowl; or (iii) the Penguins secure another generational  talent (i.e., Lemieux, Crosby, Malkin or Jagr (with apologies to player such as KL and MAF for not qualifying)) in the draft?   My money would be on (iii).
Zeise
11:50
I’ll go with Steelers and the Super Bowl just because I don’t expect a Pirates World Series in my lifetime and guys like Crosby come around maybe once every decade

Hi Paul. Did you happen to try the spicy pork & broccoli up in the Press Box last week?
Oh, by the way, in the team exit interviews they told me to work on my cookbooks more. I thought they were going to give me goalie tips. Is that a bad sign, Paul?
Zeise
11:52
You had the shortest endorsement possibility in the history of sports! And yes I hope you either learn a new trade or grow comfortable with the idea you are destined to be in the AHL for a long time!

Paul,  I can't get excited about the Pirates and need a sports fix.  A coworker reminded me that the FIFA World Cup is this summer.  Will the US get past the first round?
Zeise
11:53
Nope, we will hear how this is the best team ever and how soccer here has grown and is really getting good. We will hear about how they have the advantage in their group and all the other stuff. And when the games begin they will be down 1-0 five minutes into the first game they play and effectively eli

Hi Paul. Do you think Burke & Hextall are done here? Someone has to take the blame for another flameout & it's typically not the players.
Zeise
11:55
I think Burke, who, can anyone actually define what he does, is definitely gone. Hextall is probably 50/50 to survive

The idea of trading away David Bednar has become a recent topic of conversation. He has 4 years of control and hes an elite reliever. Please explain how this makes any sense? The Pirates can't simply keep trading anything with value away. This is exactly the type of thinking Bob Nutting wants us all to have.
Zeise
11:57
I would agree if he played any other position but closer. This team stinks and a closer is a luxury item they don’t need and Bednar’s value will never be higher. I say trade him because you can always go find a closer once the team is good enough to merit one

It has been so nice not to see your face on the Nightly Sports Call anymore. Ever since you and Walls promoted drinking on a sports show no less, my husband and I can't stand you. Then when you had a chance to apologize and do the right thing you laughed at that too. Just stay off the air! Shame! Shame!

I got bad news - I’ve been out of town the past few weekends but I was on last week and was on the Showdown Sunday. Get a clue. And have another drink

Why do so many of the Pirates pitchers leave and turn it around overnight?!?! I'm sorry but the coaching and development in the Pirates organization is terrible Paul. It is.
Zeise

Oscar Marin - when do we start asking what this guy actually does and where is any evidence he has helped any pitcher get better

I'm not liking this contract for Hayes. No HR's in 2 months, few RBI's and he isn't even hitting well lately. When he does hit its mostly singles. Plus 5 errors already. He was great for 2 months in 2020 and that's it. I don't see him as any face of a franchise. What do you think?
Zeise
12:03
He signed for 8 years and $70 million. Star third basemen are making 3 years and $70 million. The contract is very team friendly and Hayes is making basically what a starting player who isn’t a star will be making
Benny
12:03
Does anyone really think the Pirates will be competitive by 2024? I think they are still so far off. A lot of their minor league "talent" is struggling and I just don't see Nutting spending money to supplement. I think the fans got duped again by the mgmt and owner. Also Nutting and Williams won't make themselves available to speak to the media. They didn't even before the season started. Very telling imo.
Zeise
12:04
I do not believe that for one second. As I have said I have to be convinced there is actual evidence of progress being made

There's currently a bill in the California state legislature that would require athletic departments at California's universities to split revenue from men's basketball and football 50/50 with the athletes. This would be on top of NIL money. Can you imagine it passing and if it does do you think it will spread throughout the NCAA?
