OK let’s do it!!

Hello Paul.  I think Coach Capel has done a nice job bringing in transfers and recruiting a few highly rated recruits.  Do you think this will buy Capel some time to further develop the program or is this season his last chance to prove himself?  Thank you Paul.
Zeise
12:04
No. Not at all. He has to win. He has done everything right this offseason. But if he doesn’t win games I’m not sure what the case to be made would to bring him back
Donte
12:04
Hi Paul, any plans to hit the links with Starkey any time soon?
Zeise
12:15
Yes, he needs to get me on his schedule!!! But he is very busy
Darnell
12:15
Hey Paul, any thoughts about what McElroy had to say about Greg Norman and Scwartzel’s
Zeise
12:18
The guys covering golf are embarrassing themselves as journalists with respect to the LIV tour stuff. Rory played 72 holes and won and walked away with $1.5 million or so. Charl Schwartzel played 54 holes and won and walked about with $4.7 million. About three times as much and played 18 holes less. So who is the dummy in this equation? And every golfer who played LIV this weekend got a paycheck. About 55-60 of the guys who played in PGA event in Canada did not get paid a dime because they didn’t make the cut. So who is the dummy? It makes zero sense for anyone to criticize the LIV guys

It’s kinda depressing when you closer shuts down the other team and then the other teams comments are all about trading for Bednar asap
Zeise
12:18
Well a closer is a luxury for a terrible team. Bednar is worth far more to the Pirates as a trade chip than he is as a guy to close out games for a 68-win team
President Skroob
12:19
The most exciting part about yesterday’s win is we are guaranteed two straight days without a loss!
Zeise
12:19
I don’t know, the Pirates have been known to lose on off days in the past!!
Kathy
12:19
Hi Paul, are there updates on Stan Savran’s health?  I’m a big fan of his…and you.  Thank you.
Zeise
12:20
Have not heard anything but yes, Stan is a legend and one of the best this business has ever seen. I hope and wish nothing for the best with him

It's frustrating. You see other teams, like the Cards, who continually churn out professional hitters. For us, it's like pulling teeth. They come up to the Pirates unable to hit certain pitches and undisciplined at the plate. Completely overmatched. They have the "deer in the headlights" look longer than they should. Coaching and management are forced to make excuses for them as they struggle or decide to send them back down to "get more playing time". It's gotta be bad coaching throughout the minor leagues and majors for that matter.

Do you think Golden State wins the title tonight in Boston or does the series go to a game 7?  Thanks.
Zeise
12:21
I think Golden State will win but it will be in Game 7, not tonight
John in SC
12:21
Good morning Paul. Thanks again for the chats. One thing I see little discussion about is RB Najee H. I was happy to see him drafted last year and feel that he was wasted in Canada’s offense, which was putrid. Giving him 350 touches every year will make for a short career. What are your thoughts?
Zeise
12:23
The thing is if you are in the camp that running backs should never get that second huge contract, you run his wheels off, franchise tag him and exercise the fifth-year option and you hope to get six years out of him without committing to more
amirite
12:23
First Pirate coach to be fired is the hitting coach, amirite?
Zeise
12:24
Didn’t they already do this? I could be wrong but I thought they did

Hello Paul, Will the Steelers new GM and management team scrutinize Tomlin's performance more critically or, at least, differently than did Colbert's regime?
Zeise
12:24
No he is even more entrenched and more powerful than ever
Ronnie
12:25
Hi Paul, as of now, do you see Letang and Malkin being with the Pens next season?  Thanks.
Zeise
12:25
I think Letang will be I am a lot less sure about Malkin

If a player signs a 'fully guaranteed' contract for XX money for X years, does the guarantee still apply if the player decides to retire (not due to injury) before the full number of contracted years is complete?
Zeise
12:26
No I think it is only guaranteed if guy plays or gets cut or waived. If he retires then he is only paid for the part of the contract he fulfilled
Harry in NC
12:26
Do you think his lack of enthusiasm to play outfield is a primary reason Cruz has not been called up to the major league team?  Thank you.
Zeise
12:27
It certainly isn’t helping his cause at all. They want him to get at bats. They want him to get reps. He would sit on the bench far too much if he is only a shortstop so why not keep him down to make sure he can play every day. If he was more
12:28
open to being an outfielder, now there is a lot more opportunity to get him in the lineup
Amanda
12:28
Every week in this chat you prove yourself to be even more of a liar! You told me you would be on with Walls on Friday and of course you were NOT! I have made numerous complaints to your superiors about how you laughed when I mentioned you both shouldn't promote drinking.  My husband hates you and so do I. Shame shame shame!
Zeise
12:30
Ha ha ha - lay off the Jesse Duke moonshine it is causing you to go blind! Not only was I on last Friday, I was on Saturday and Sunday on the showdown as well!
Cal

The Pirates went 1-9 on this latest road trip. Why is O'Neil Cruz still down in AAA but bums like Diego Castillo who has hit .070 since early May still is on the team? I'm sorry Paul but Ben Cherington in year 3 of this 'rebuild' has been very unimpressive.
Zeise
12:31
Again they are clearly keeping him down to get past that Super 2 number or whatever. It won’t shock me if he is up tomorrow to start the home stand
Jeff
12:31
There's a catcher in double A hitting around .300 for us. I forget his name. If the Pirates can bring up Jack Suwinski from double A and play him, why can't they bring up the catcher because what we have now is atrocious. And embarrassing.
Zeise
12:31
Again, it is all about service time with their top prospects. They can deny it but facts are tacts
TP Hunter
12:32
Why doesn't anyone in the media call out publicly and repeatedly Bob Nutting and Travis Williams for not doing any interviews this season so far? None before the season. I mean it's a joke and I'm sorry but you guys should be calling them out publicly all the time.
Zeise
12:33
I think Nutting has done at least one, if not two since spring training. What exactly do you want to hear from Williams? He is the business guy and has very little To do with baseball operations
T-Man
12:33
If Watson has career ending (God forbid!) injury in first game for Browns does still get all $230M? Is there insurance for something like that? Thanks for chatting Paul!
Zeise
12:34
Yes there is insurance for those kinds of contracts. You couldn’t give one out without insurance
Fred
12:34
I think the Hayes contract will be a bust like Polanco'. Hayes is hitting .220 in the past month and .130 in his past 8 games. No power either. He never hit well in the minors. I haven't been impressed with him at all. What do you think?
