OK let’s get started
Jock Sutherland
12:05
Whats your opinion on adding crowd noise to the upcoming broadcasts. For or ag
Zeise
12:06
I think it makes no sense. I’m a huge golf fan. I’ve gotten used to watching golf without idiots yelling “get in the hole!!!” and it is fine. We will all get used to watching games without fans and quickly not even know the difference
GH

Washington Redskins, Cleveland Indians. In this crazy world could you ever envision the Pittsburgh Pirates changing their name? Think about what the name pirate conjures up.
Zeise
12:07
I am not sure who would be offended by the name Pirates but in this world at this time, nothing would shock me.
Start firing questions!

Any insight into the mood of the Pirates players? What does the taxi squad think about spending their time in Altoona?
Zeise
12:12
Honestly right now everyone from what I can tell is excited to be back playing baseball. The guys in Altoona know he is one step away from playing in the majors. These guys went so long without being able to play baseball I’m thinking they are really happy right now

How much of NFL revenue, and hence the salary cap, comes from ticket sales and concessions? There is a lot of talk of a drop in the salary cap if games are played without fans, but that seems doubtful unless games are outright canceled. Any loss will likely be made up, at least partially, by a 17th game.
Zeise
12:15
There will definitely be a drop in revenues. Yes the TV money is the key but there will be drop without fans in many ways. I’ll give you one example - if fans aren’t allowed to attend games there will be a drop off in merchandise sales. People aren’t as likely to by hats, shirts, coats, etc if they aren’t going to be going to games. Now how much that drop will he is a great question but they estimate the cap could be between $20 and $30 million less next season
Jock Sutherland
12:15
or against.   And do you think networks will get more creative with adding crowd atmosphere to broadcast.  I would think it would be possible to visually add fans to seats on broadcasts if they wanted.
Zeise
12:16
Again, I don’t see the need for crowd noise that is artificial and pumped into broadcasts to add “at
mosphere. It makes no sense
Jeff
12:17
so agree with you on watching golf!  nothing worse than some token idiot yelling "you the man" after every tee shot.  Football is a little different but I would rather games without fans or on fans at all.  What are your thoughts on the mask requirement?
Zeise
12:21
Look if they say masks help stop the spread I don’t see why people would object to wearing them. I don’t understand the whole mask thing - if they tell you “you can go to a Steelers game if you wear a mask” then wear it and enjoy the game. This is not hard at all. A buddy of mine said he will never wear a mask because it is his choice or whatever. I told him “if for no other reason than to get the mask shaming idiots off your back, put a mask on....”I don’t know, I coach basketball. I wear a mask while I coach. It is fine. So a long story short - a mask requirement to attend games shouldn’t be viewed as a big deal. Just do it and go have a few overpriced beers and have fun

If baseball is Prohibiting spitting, chewing, pitchers touching their faces etc, what is the penalty if they do?  It seems a rule without a consequence is not a rule at all.
Zeise
12:24
I have no idea, I don’t think there is any consequences unless you are a chronic spitter. I have said before “if everyone in the building is tested, if everyone in the building is health screened, it is a controlled environment so why all these way over the top rules? It doesn’t make sense, really, but who am I to make that call.
12:27
There was a question that disappeared into cyberspace when I clicked on it to add it to the chat that was good — what will be the capacity of Heinz for Steelers games? I saw the Ravens were talking about Crowds of like 15,000 or so. I’d expect that to be similar everywhere. 12,500 would be about 1/5th of Heinz capacity (20 percent) so I would it imagine it won’t be much more than that.

“Get in the hole”!  That is So true Paul, and I always imagined these R the same idiots who yell “Freebird” at a show.
Zeise
12:28
Well get in the hole guy wants to see if he can get his voice on TV. What he doesn’t realize is we are all calling him an idiot.
Notinthistogether
12:28
All for players supporting whatever cause they wish, but can we just skip playing any anthems prior to a football game, before we have to play like 10 new ones (YMCA).
Zeise
12:29
I agree 100 percent. Stop playing the national anthem at sporting events. It is a practice that is not necessary.

What kind of punishment do you think DeSean Jackson deserves  for his anti- Semitic comments and how do you think the fact that both his team owner and general manager are Jewish will effect the decision?
Zeise
12:32
Riley Cooper was fined and sent to sensitivity training. I don’t see why Jackson would be treated any different
CoalportKid
12:32
What's your over/under for the Pirates, I'll go 20.5
Zeise
12:32
I said before 29-31 so I’ll say 28.5 is my over/under

Hey Paul, not to blow smoke up your blank, but, you’re hands down my favorite... My question is with Ivy League schools cancelling, fall sports, do you see any of the power 5 conferences following suit? Also, did you see the tweet of the South Fayette student next to Devin Bush? Is Devin really that small?
Zeise
12:38
First, Devin Bush isn’t very tall which was one of his shortcomings coming out of college - pardon the pun. The Ivy League made a financial decision as much as a health and safety decision. By cutting sports out for the fall they save a lot of money. I think there will be far more pushback by Power 5 conferences because the financial loss would be enormous with no football
Buster
12:38
Why haven’t we seen baseball players kneeling? They play the anthem before their games, too.
Zeise
12:39
There was one a few years ago, I think he played for the As. The culture in baseball is different, though, and it is a much whiter sport than the NFL or NBA
BillC
12:40
Maybe MLB should allow about a dozen local Little League kids into each home game so they can run around the stadium and fetch all the foul balls that go into the stands during a game!
Zeise
12:41
That would be fun. You could probably have a lot more than a dozen. I think that would be a cool thing to do
Jeff
12:41
Paul I think we are brothers that were separated at birth.  Just wear the freakin mask.  T shirt design idea.  You heard it here first
Zeise
12:48
I am surprised there isn’t a shirt already. And the thing is I don’t know if masks work or they don’t but it is such an easy and effortless thing to do, it is easier to just do it. Just say it is only effective for 1 percent decrease in spread of COVID - isn’t that worth it? It takes far more energy and emotion to fight against the mask order than to just put the damn mask on. I’ll say this one more time - this sh... err stuff ain’t hard: wear a mask, keep your distance as much as possible, avoid big crowds in tight spaces indoors and if you are sick or not feeling well stay the hell home. Those four things are really easy to do and if everyone did them we would be in a lot better place than we are right now

Paul: what is your son doing these days?
Zeise
12:51
He got two degrees at Pitt - accounting and finance and he has a really good job in finance so he is doing really well. Thanks for asking. He is like many, many former athletes who used their athletic talent to get them their education and is using that education to build a career.
Jock Sutherland
12:51
Also agree on stop playing national anthem. Makes even less sense to play it before these games with no fans attendi
Zeise
12:52
It is just one of those practices that makes no sense. It is pandering. When I go to a movie do I have to stand for the anthem? When I go out to eat? The symphony? Operas? Broadway plays? We don’t do it anywhere else.
