Did the hounds get screwed last night?  The goal off the crossbar looked in to me.  Also Indy's goal came after the 6 minutes extra time should have elapsed.  Thoughts?

I was at the Pirates game so I’m not even going to pretend I know what happened. I will say it sounded like they lost in heartbreaking fashion

Hello Paul, Your thoughts on Governor Wolf vetoing the Blue Jays playing in Pittsburgh?
Zeise
1:05
Ridiculous and dumb. One thing we have seen proven true during this pandemic is that old axiom - power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I’m most disappointed that our mayor and county executives didn’t push back hard. That would have been leadership. That would have been real courage. That would have been the right thing to do for Pittsburgh. There is no legitimate reason the Blue Jays can’t play here

hey Paul,  thanks for the chats.  As much as I am hoping this doesn't happen what if the Steelers win 7-8 games and miss playoffs again.  we wont have pick in the draft high enough to have immediate impact.  If you were GM what would you do with Ben?  Assume he plays well but not well enough.  Cut ties or try another year?
Zeise
1:06
His cap number for 2021 is way too big to cut ties with him. The Steelers are stuck with him for better or worse for at least the next two years

Hello, Paul.  Things are looking bad for football this Fall, and now it appears there will be no NFL preseason.  Won't this hurt the quality of the product for at least the first few games?  It also seems that many low round picks will be thrown under the bus since they will have almost no chance of making the team.
Zeise
1:10
The only people whose will get hurt by this are the undrafted free agents and the low draft picks trying to make the team. As it is they will have to cut ten guys before camp because they can only carry 80 instead of the 90 they usually do. Most of the regulars barely play in the preseason anyway

Do you think no pre season helps Steelers who return most veterans and coaches. It will be tough for new coaching staffs
Zeise
1:13
Yes. The Steelers edge will be they have a lot of veterans and they have a lot of guys who played almost all of the snaps from last season back. They also have both coordinators back and have done a great job of keeping their coaching staff at large intact

Paul, I'm curious about the number of professional championships Pgh. claims. I've read that Pgh. claims 16 (Steelers 6, Pens and Pirates 5). But didn't the Pipers win the ABA championship in 1968? If so, why wouldn't the city claim 17?
Zeise
1:17
You are absolutely correct and the thing is that championship was of one of the major professional leagues at the time. Four teams from the ABA merged into the NBA and a boatload of players and coaches too. And a number of Hall of Famers played in the ABA as well. It is ridiculous that people overlook that championship but it should be counted. And I’ll add this - that, not the Mazeroski home run game, is the last time a Pittsburgh team won a championship in Pittsburgh

If the Penguins win against Montreal will the next one still be on Att Sports or will they be national games?
Zeise
1:18
I think once we get through the first/preliminary/pigtail/play in/whatever round it will be a mixture of both

Hey Paul...since the Pirates don’t seem to want to sign Puig, is there any chance they sign Melky who was released by the Mets?
Zeise
1:19
No I think they want to give some of their younger players a chance to play
Walt
1:19
Do you think Jason Martin still fits into the Pirates ‘ plans or has that ship sailed?  Thanks Paul.
Zeise
1:20
They have figured out he isn’t a viable every day option in the outfield. Maybe he has a career as a decent 4th outfielder type who is a pinch runner or whatever.

Who is the odd man out coming out of camp? Duck or Lynch?
Zeise
1:21
Based on what we have seen to this point? I would think Duck will be the third strong guy

Paul, I was saddened to hear of the passing of Carlton Haselrig.  What an athlete!  I don’t think his six wrestling championships will ever be matched.  A college wrestling champion and a NFL All Pro.  May God rest his soul. My sympathies to his family and teammates.
Zeise
1:24
I agree and I got to know him a little because I was writing about him when he was on the comeback trail. He was playing with the Pittsburgh Colts semipro team. He was actually a really good dude. And his six championships won’t be matched because I think they changed the rule that allowed him to wrestle in both the D-2 and D-1 championships

Any chance the Governor changes his mind about not letting the BlueJays play at PNC?    Since other teams will be coming into the city and will be extensively tested, why not let Toronto play here?  I’m sure the sports authority and governmental agencies wouldn’t mind some extra capitol.
Zeise

I doubt it. He and Dr Levine aren’t any different than Trump with the whole God complex issue. He thinks he is a lot smarter than he is and he doesn’t care who his decisions hurt. We must all obey him or else!!

Hey Paul - what do you think about the Washington Red..... new team name?? Pretty clever (and hilarious)!
Zeise
1:30
I’ve never been and never will be a “nickname” guy. I just don’t care. I was Ok with Redskins and will be OK with whatever they come up with

Paul. The Steelers have had The Steel Curtain, Lamberts Lunatics, Francos Italian Army. In these times of masks. Why not The Elephant Man Clan? I'm not an animal, I'm a Steelers fan.
Zeise

I have no idea what that means

Hi Paul...who are your picks for NBA MVP and ROY?  It’s my understanding the awards will be based on games already played.
Zeise
1:33
I would say Ja Morant for rookie of the year and Lebron James for MVP

1:34
There is a reason Steelers asst. coaching staff remains intact, no one wants them?
Zeise
1:35
Nah, I think they have some really good coaches but the Steelers organization is stable, the Rooneys and Tomlin are good to work for. A lot of guys don’t like to leave a good situation unless they are gonna get a clear upgrade

So what do you see happening with college football this fall:  the Power 5 playing conference only while nobody else plays, the whole thing shut down, or something else?
Zeise
1:36
I honestly have no idea. I would have said a week ago there will be no football. I don’t think that is gonna be the case because I think the Power 5 schools are gonna push this as far as they can to have some sort of a season. It won’t be easy but I think we will have some football of some
1:37
kind  I just don’t know what it will look like

NFL teams are starting to report.  If the local city enforces limitation on gathering size, are teams prepared to move training camp to another location?  (like the Blue Jays are being forced to move)
