Paul, I expect the Pirates to be in contention for the 2nd wild card in 2024 (woo hoo!).  Their attendance seems to be dwindling.  Do you think the fans will come back with the same fervor in 2024 as they did in 2013?  Thanks.
Zeise

If there is a slight but steady climb and they get better and there is stuff to get excited about leading up to it - yes the fans will return

Paul, how many Pirates on the roster today do you think will be there next opening day?  I count Hayes, Reynolds, Bednar, Brubaker, Stallings and Keller, (not the reliever) mainly to avoid a possible Glasnow situation. Maybe Moran for DH.  Let's change the team name to Prospects.
Zeise

Well Moran could be traded in the offseason. But the list is longer when you go with the number of random younger and fill in players that have been added to the roster via trades and waivers

Is Justin Layne another in the long list of CB's this team has whiffed on? He is a 3rd round pick who by all reports has been significantly outplayed by the undrafted James Pierre.

This is a huge year for him no doubt about it. A huge one. He needs to show something this preseason and prove he can be a really reliable corner otherwise he will be as you said another bad corner pick by this current front office and head coaxh

Good afternoon Paul who scores the first touchdown for Steelers tonight even though it’s preseason
Zeise

I will say Diontae Johnson will score the first touchdown! Why not, right

Do you think Watt is quietly holding out for a contract and not practicing on purpose.  Or is my friend making up stories.
Zeise
1:06
I think there is no question he is holding out without holding out

Any update on Troy of attending the enshrinement Saturday?
Zeise
1:07
No not that I’ve heard of. I would think at this point he would probably not be able to do it

Everyone mentioning the noname OL not having time to gel but, lets not forget the tight ends and the D. Watt boy as blockers, too. Could be a powerful run game with some flavah.
Zeise
1:13
I agree - if they all come together and the players they are counting on - like Trai Turner, Zach Banner and Kevin Dotson - are healthy and play at a reasonably high level  the run game should click well, especially if Najee Harris is who we think he is

Why do teams play “vanilla” offenses in the preseason? Shouldn’t the players be evaluated performing the offense they’ll be playing in? “Hiding”an offense is only going to possibly help some in the first game of the season.
Zeise
1:15
Because why give away game plan stuff in games that don’t matter. They are evaluating guys speed, physicality and ability to execute the things they are asked to execute and getting a look at guys and how they fit into special teams

Will Notre Dame ever join a football conference?
Zeise
1:20
Not as long as they don’t need to. Why would they? Now if it goes to four super conferences and the playoff bids are limited, maybe, but if they go to 12-team playoff I see no reason why Notre Dame would join a conference

Why are fans so excited about Haskins?  Washington wasn't exactly awash in QB talent and they kicked him to the curb with no hesitation.
Zeise
1:25
I think he has talent. I think he can be a very good quarterback but he  needs to prove it and that starts tonight. He has enough talent to be a good quarterback but not sure we have seen that yet. It takes
1:26
more than talent
Speaking of Pirate's managers
1:26
Have you ever thought that Hurdle wanted to get fired or at least wasn't trying that hard not to? I think he had two years at $3 million left. Six million dollars to not have to deal with this franchise when you're near the end and maybe not wanting another job isn't the worst deal.
Zeise
1:26
No, baseball managers want to manage baseball teams

There was some supposedly false information that the Steelers were unhappy with Dotson's shape and or preparation coming into the season. It seemed like nonsense, but perhaps he failed to attend to a potential something that was lingering...do you get a sense that there is something to that?
Zeise
1:29
That whole thing was blown way out of proportion based on what it really was. He looks like he is in shape so that’s all that matters. The offseason leads to a lot of speculation and nonsensical storylines

How does adding WVU and a Florida school move the needle for the ACC? There's no way those schools increase revenue. And Notre Dame isn't joining.
The ACC needs to figure out how to increase revenue not just add teams for the sake of adding teams.
Zeise
1:30
It is just solidifying the base of schools. The proposal to have a two coast conference - with schools in three time zones - is ridiculous

Am I the weirdest person in Pittsburgh?
Zeise

You are the weirdest person I know!!

OK thanks for all the questions and we will do it next week again!!!
