Welcome to the chat!!

Paul, Do you think Josh Dobbs is getting a fair shot at the back-up qb spot?  I read endless chatter about Rudolph and Haskins, but I think Josh outplayed both in the Dallas game.  How do you assess his chances of winning the job?
Zeise
12:08
I do - the coaches are watching every snap at practice and know what he can do. They obviously think the other two have a better shot at being a legit starter

question paul if a team hits a ground rule double with runners on 2nd and 3rd do both runs count if the score is tied in the botton of the ninth?
Zeise
12:08
yes I believe so

If the B12 collapses, what is the best and most likely option for WVU?  Not sure they add the necessary value for either B10 or ACC to warrant an invite.  Would be a real bummer to see that school end up in AAC.  Hopefully noted football fan and school prez Gordon Gee has a back up plan!
Zeise
12:10
I would think the ACC would be smart enough to take them. It would strengthen both the football conference and the footprint
Bernard
12:11
Is Mason Rudolph a legit NFL starting QB that has the talent to lead the Steelers into the playoffs?  My eyes tell me they need to draft Ben's replacement, that Mason simply doesn't have it.  (PS I would love for Mason to kill it, he got jobbed by Myles G and a complicit media).
Zeise
12:15
I think so the thing is he is the kind of QB like Ryan Tannehill that will be good with a good running game. He will be good throwing deep passes and handing it off and doing play action

What do the remaining Big 12 schools have to offer to the Big Ten, Pac 12, or ACC, maybe in that order?
Zeise
12:17
They all have something - either a brand name, a football program, a basketball program or a TV market or recruiting market
GeorgeBlimmel
12:17
Sent that too soon. Compared to the Big Ten, the crowds will generally be smaller and while Rutgers and Maryland made some sense because they brought major media markets none of the Big 12 schools do. Is Kansas basketball enough of a draw?
Zeise
12:19
Yes. Why would any conference not want one of the five best basketball programs out there. And football crowds are better than a lot of schools in the Power 5

Hello Paul, thank you for the chats.  Do you foresee a baseball strike next year?
Zeise
12:22
I absolutely do. The owners and players do not trust each other at all and there are some major differences between them
Bernard
12:22
Any thoughts on Simone Biles and Naomi Osaka given your own battles?  My son suffers from severe anxiety and is bipolar type 1 so I appreciate the increased attention but where was the media for the last 18 months when untold thousands were suffering, and many killing themselves, during the gov't mandated shutdowns?  My son, and many of his peers, really suffered when colleges went online (and now many classes at "open universities" are starting to quietly shift online as professors hide again).

I think mental issues are very difficult for people to understand. It   is sad but a part of life. The Biles thing was really scary because she is one used to pressure

Always enjoy your chats. It is really tough to watch this team now, but it was encouraging to see we doubled the number of hits last night over the previous game (haha). I also enjoy the minor league game summaries posted on the Trib website. Of those youngsters, who do see being on the ML roster in the next couple of years.

I love what Nick Gonzalez has done, I’m excited about him and sooner rather than later.

The Penguins did nothing to make the team better in FA.  This might be the first year in a long long time that all 3 Pittsburgh professional sports teams (really 2) do not qualify for the playoffs.  Your thoughts?
Zeise
12:36
I agree that they aren’t better. But I do think they will be able to make the playoffs. They are built for regular season success just not playoff success

Hi Paul. Great Steeler coverage as usual. Given the search for depth at ILB do you think they might try to coax Vince Williams out of retirement? I realize he has limited coverage ability but after reading today's article about ILB depth it seems as he'd be an upgrade over what we have. I don't recall his retirement being injury related.
Zeise
12:37
No it sounds like he is done and happy coaching

12:37
Have you heard any additional information about the ACC Network and Comcast agreeing to a carriage deal? It seemed like it was close a few weeks ago.
Zeise
12:38
I think it is going to happen. And that will be good for Pitt fans so they will be able to watch games
Where’s My Clark Bar?
12:38
Paul, do you believe Pirates have enough pitching talent in their system to compete in the next few years?
Zeise
12:39
No they will have to sign free agents when they are ready to win. That’s been the formula for all these rebuilds
C. Roy
12:45
Do you think they will give Michael Chavis a look at Pittsburgh this year?
Zeise
12:45
They should but I don’t know what their philosophy on stuff like that. He is ready and he is of the age where he should start to get in the majors
The Dude
12:45
Care to revise your 98 loss prediction?
Zeise
12:46
Well it looks more like 105-106 losses now. That’s crazy to think they were once 12-11
Lefty
12:46
Hey, just wanted to let you know I vividly recall you saying I would never win another major. Stick to college pigskin…..
Zeise
12:47
Congrats. That was a great weekend for you. Now pay off all your gambling debts!

Hey Paul.  Is Coach LeBeau on good terms with Art Rooney II and Coach Cowher?  They seemed to be distant from Coach LeBeau at the HOF ceremony.  Thank you.
Zeise
12:48
I think so - he is one of those guys everyone likes. I can’t imagine there is a rift
KC
12:52
Should I be wishing for a mulligan for trading up for a certain immature ILB?
Zeise
12:54
Man I will tell you - that guy needs to grow up and grow up fast. It wouldn’t be so annoying if he was actually a star. But he isn’t, he is pretty average so far
Jesse Pinkman
12:54
It will be a long year if the Steelers seem unable to cover the tight end again. Is this a lack of talent or are Butler and Tomlin getting out-schemed?
Zeise
12:55
It has to be a flaw in the scheme. They have too many good players over the years to not be able to cover tight ends
Dr Love
12:56
How can the Pirates not be the worst team in Major League Baseball? Or will they reach that level over the final games?
