Although the Pittsburgh media may not directly "defend or protect" Nutting, they do indirectly by their false promoting the team (e.g., one of the top minor league systems, two run games, mediocre performances that they exaggerate over, exit velocity rather than mention the player's batting average or strike outs). In addition to the Pirate broadcasters, many of the Pirate writers at the PG are just as guilty.

What the Pirates failed to point out is that, although the Red Soxs  are in last place, they are a 500 club and they play in the hardest division in the major leagues! That is far different from being 26 games below 500 and playing in a division with the Cubs and Reds!

Red Sox may be in last place, too, but they’re only 4 games back in the AL wildcard race. Pirates are 19 and a half back in the NL.
