I'm not getting the comparison between this Steelers slow start compared to 2008. There is no comparison between the teams. The 2008 team had many Super Bowl champions on it, a young Rothlisberger and a very good defense with real solid leaders like Aaron Smith and James Farrior not even counting Troy and James Harrison. This defense, at full strength is also very good, but this offense is hoplessly far behind. There is No. 1 receiver comparable to Santonio Holmes and of course Hines Ward was still around. The main thing they have in common is lousy offensive lines, which nullifies this team's advantage at running back with Harris.

The comparison is the offensive line was not good that year but they still figured it out

What did the organization expect if they hire a newbie OL coach?  They needed someone like a Munchack, like Doug Marrone.  What realistically does Adrian Klemm bring to this team?  Got me.

Do all of the OL motions pre-snap appear amateurish and high school level, goodness, they are confusing themselves more than the defense, like on the second play of the game, and, that was at home.  How well will they do with that window dressing in a noisy environment
Zeise
1:43
That is the Canada offense and it is what he likes and Ben hates

How much energy do you think Tomlin has to start a rebuild reboot from the ground up?   You need a whole bunch of wind in your sails.  I don't think he has that much fresh energy left to do so.
Zeise

That’s why I say it is likely time for him and the Steelers to move on

If Narduzzi struggles in year seven, with a 6th-year quarterback and a bunch of seniors in a very weak ACC, then when the heck is he ever going to get this program over the hump? Stability is one thing, but if perennial mediocrity is the result, what is the point?
Zeise
1:44
I absolutely agree - this is his best opportunity to seize the moment and go take Pitt to a higher level of winning games

Paul, I may be crazy, but I expect a good game against the packers, not necessarily a win, but a competitve game with the offense playing better. I think pride will kick in and some will be surprized. Thoughts?
Zeise
1:45
I do too - I don’t know if the Steelers will win but I do think they will show up and play well. I will be shocked if it is a blowout loss

If you had to buy a ticket to one Pittsburgh sports team's game before the end of the year, what would it be?
Zeise
1:46
The Steelers game against the Ravens. You can always count on those to be entertaining

PZ, if Koepka and DeChambeau an hug it out, maybe we can hug it out with Amanda.  🎵Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.🎵

Do you think in the shakeout of Power 5 conferences WVU gets to the ACC? renew the old Big east rivalries, cut down on travel, and let's face it, from a football standpoint, maybe a little easier schedule every year?
Zeise
1:48
No I think they going to be in the Big 12 for better or worse

If I were the OC, I would come out on the first series with three passing plays with targets over 10 yards down field, and instruct Ben to throw them, and if everyone is covered, still throw it out of bounds down field.  Need to send a message that you can't crowd the box, defend the run and the short 2-5 dump passes.  And if it's a three and out, do the same on the next series.  What would it hurt?  Might open everything up if the defenses thought we were going to start slinging the ball down field.

How about just run a full offense and in the context of the offense let it fly a few times

If the Steelers were out of plays on that 4th and 11 you'd think Ben could have drawn one up in the dirt. And will there be any MLB season at all next year?
Zeise
1:49
My thoughts exactly - Ben was drawing plays up in the dirt last year but this year he can’t figure out how to have guys run a fade or something. And there will be a work stoppage

Watched an NFL Throwbacks episode recently which was a half hour of nothing but Troy Polamalu highlights. The guy was amazing.

Paul, at this stage, is it best to limit WR options on routes and have them just run one route and run it well, to simplify the offense?
Zeise
1:50
No. Let’s start by blocking well and go from there

Will the trend to fewer innings from starting pitchers stop at 5? In ten years could almost all games be "bullpen games?" It would eliminate most massive salaries for pitchers.
Zeise
1:51
Who the heck knows but it isn’t trending in a good way

I would suggest that they never really figured out the O-line in '08, it was more Rothlisberger scrambling to make plays. Remember, they couldn't punch it in twice from inside the 5 in the Super Bowl that year and that is how the Steelers almost blew the game. Rothlisberger ain't scrambling anymore!
Zeise
1:52
Exactly - the difference between 2008 and this year is there was a young Roethlisberger running around making plays and this year it is an old guy

Hear me out Zeise...Steelers win on Sunday because Packers are overrated, their offensive line is hurt and they're on a 3rd string tackle, their defense isn't anything special outside of Jaire Alexander..... Steelers may have Watt, HIghsmith, Diontae returning, Chuks is out which may be a good thing, the offense literally can't get much worse and Mike T's teams are good when backed into a corner and being doubted. Am I crazy? Hammer that Steelers moneyline!
Zeise
1:52
There you heard it first - hammer the money line!
AK

Big Ben is the root of the Steelers offensive issues. Being completely immobile  and physically broken down does not help an already bad offensive line, the running game has no chance because they can just load the box and dare him to throw, (which he cant make all the throws) and it limits the playcalling. Your thoughts?
Zeise
1:53
I would say the line is a bigger issue. Big Ben hasn’t been great but he has not been as bad as the offensive line!
OK folks thanks for all the great questions and let’s do it next week! Enjoy your weekend
