They always say the backup QB is the most popular guy in town. But certainly not in the Burgh. Why do you think everyone is so down on Rudolph?
Zeise
12:34
Well in this case it is the third stringer who is the most popular guy in town - Josh Dobbs. He apparently has bounced around and whatnot despite the fact that he became Randall Cunningham if you listen to talk show callers. Rudolph has been shaky but I think he needs a real opportunity before we crush him

What happened on Sunday, where it appeared Conner was removed from the game plan?
Zeise
12:35
It is a mystery how they are using the running backs. But again if Ben Roethlisberger is drawing up plays in the dirt, he is obviously calling all passing plays!!

Hi Paul, and Happy 50th! I’ve noticed Ben talking on the sidelines with Josh Dobbs during games, but seemingly never with Mason Rudolph. What goes? Is Josh more the “intellectual” backup favored by Ben for his observations? And if the Steelers went to the trouble of bringing Josh back, then why not activate him for an occasional game and make use of his running talents as another weapon in the offense?
Zeise
12:37
I have tried to stay away from guessing what people are talking about and reading into who is talking to who on the sidelines for most of my career. It is usually not a very productive exercise

You seem pretty ornery lately. Everything ok?
Zeise
12:37
I’m 50 now so I can officially embrace becoming a crotchety old man. So get off my lawn.

Is it time to narrow the goal posts? 50+ yard field goals are becoming too commonplace. Your thoughts?
Zeise
12:38
No, there is no need to trick it up like that. Guys are getting better that’s all.

Very concerned with the performance of the offensive line in regards to the run game.  Is this a regression due to the loss of Bruce Mathews?
Zeise
12:39
I think you mean Mike Munchak. I don’t know, I think a couple of players have gotten old and they have had to plug in a few newer players.

Hey Paul! Why don’t we start off 5 wide and no huddle to set up the run? Why didn’t Tomlin make adjustments on special teams last week Instead of just giving in?
Zeise
12:40
What adjustment are you going to make on the fly with the game on the line that could prevent a blocked kick or missed FG? I have no idea what that means
Gene
12:40
Why do you think the offense is having so many slow starts and then picking it up in the 2nd half?
Zeise
12:41
They go more tempo in the second half and again, Ben Roethlisberger draws up play in the dirt in the huddle!!!

Hi Paul...I read that the Jets’ asking price for Darnold is a 2nd and 5th round pick.  If you’re Colbert, do you make that trade?  Thanks.
Zeise
12:41
No, I think he stinks. OK that may be harsh, I just don’t think he is that good

12:41
Paul, Enjoy that humble pie!  You earned a BIG serving with last week's prediction of a Steeler blowout.
Zeise
12:42
Sigh. Once again, they played horribly and still WON the game as I predicted. So you can take your pie and .....

Paul, what is the latest COVID test results for the team?  Have anymore players tested positive other than McDonald?
Zeise
12:43
I think we would have heard about it by now so not so far. The Steelers have been fairly lucky in that regard so far

Paul, I’ve been impressed with Heyward’s play this season and even more so with his leadership and opinions off the field dealing with the virus and the social issues plaguing our country.  Your thoughts?
Zeise
12:46
He has been a warrior and a leader this year. He is having a fantastic season
Darnell
12:46
Do the Steelers consider Williamson a rental player for this season or was the trade made for him being here long term?
Zeise
12:47
Yes I would think he is a one-year player. He is brought here to fill the void left by Devin Bush

While the dream of an undefeated season is still in play, don't you feel this team NEEDS to lose a game or two to get razor sharp before a playoff/Super Bowl run? I just haven't experienced a Steelers team that was so "nails" that they could pull this off.
Zeise
12:50
I have never understood the logic that an undefeated team losing a game will be a good thing or a helpful thing. I’ve never understood it. They win close games because they are mentally tough enough to do it.
Dr Bobby

I am not sure why everybody is high on Dupree and we must resign him, last week he played very poorly and on multiple occasions he ran to the quarterback and was beat outside, when he should have been protecting the sideline, thoughts?
Zeise
12:51
Here is a pattern that is developing with him - he seems to be feast or famine. Maybe that is the nature of the position but he is either in on every play or he is invisible. There doesn’t seem to be an in between
JJ

Do you believe that the offensive inconsistencies we have seen from the Steelers thus far is a product of a lack of training camp/preseason, poor game planning/scripting, lack of execution or something else entirely. As a fan it has been maddening thus far!
Zeise
12:52
I think the play calling has been suspect at times. I also think the offensive line has been very inconsistent and that doesn’t help

How in the world can Mike Tomlin justify the notion that they are not capable of in game adjustments??? If they can't, then who can? I have watched football for many years and observed pee-wee, high school, college and professional teams make significant adjustments on the fly. Sorry, but I am not buying it this time! Your thoughts?
Zeise
12:53
He was talking specifically about the kicking game. That is not the same as the other phases of the game
Guest
12:53
If the Steelers are concerned about slow starts on offense, why don't they go 5 wide to start and go no huddle? If they get a lead then try to run the clock out.
Zeise
12:54
A lot of people say that and I don’t completely disagree. And frankly if they go five wide it will mean we can get to the “Ben drawing up plays in the dirt” portion of the game a lot quicker!

Did you agree with not kicking the FG in the waning moments against Dallas? I thought their splits were too wide allowing for penetration between the long snapper and the guards. Will this be an issue going forward?
Zeise
12:55
I said at the time going for it was the right move. There were too many variables with the kicking game that day: I put the ball in the hands of my offense And say “go get the yard.” One difference though is I put the ball in Ben’s hands and don’t call some horrible running play
