OK let’s do it….
Jerry
12:02
Hey Paul! Why don't the corners look back for the ball anymore? Instead they play the man and get a PI instead.
Zeise
12:03
It does seem a lot more of a thing when the ball is in the air many corners aren’t looking for the ball. The good ones still do but far too many do not
Mercury
12:03
If Rudolph starts and plays poorly, do they stick with him the whole game?
Zeise
12:04
Yes I think so, unless he absolutely stinks the joint out. If he is just mediocre he will likely continue to play

Paul, the Pens finally managed to persuade a puck into the net on the power play Tuesday.  Players and coaches say everything is going well except for scoring. Do you see anything missing (other than 71)?
Zeise
12:05
Well 71 is a big thing to be missing. They are just in a slump right now. I think one thing that is being ignored - the Pens aren’t very good right now
Mercury
12:06
Is before Thanksgiving too early to decorate for Christmas?
Zeise
12:07
I’m not a “decorate for Christmas” guy. I am not being funny when I say this - as many of you know I battle depression and Christmas is maybe the worst holiday for me and many like me. So say a few prayers for me and many like me during the Christmas season because it is usually the lowest point of my year.
Dave
12:07
Paul, do you think Canada will be back next year as Steelers OC?
Zeise
12:08
I do, if they fired him they would be admitting they made a huge mistake hiring him
Ben
12:08
Paul… you have coached a lot of sports in your life and I understand NFL is a business.  However no one can watch bush play football and think he should be out there.   He’s clueless/not physical/and tiny.   None make a good
Zeise
12:08
The thing is you have to have a better option and right now I’m not sure that there is. At some point you hope his talent and athletic ability win out and he starts making plays
John
12:09
Paul how can they not bench Bush? He looked so small but we were sold on his athleticism.   No he’s a 20lb heavier mike Hilton playing mlb.    You have to put someone else in there.
Zeise
12:09
Again, the key isn’t sitting a guy down. The key is - do you have a better option. And I’m not convinced they do at this point
Bill
12:09
Why do you think Jeff Capel has had so much trouble recruiting and more importantly keeping the recruits he gets. There obviously has been constant turmoil in the locker room and rumors I heard is his brother is immature. Plus Jeff promotes Milan Brown when this program has only gotten worse.
Zeise
12:10
It is hard to recruit to a program that has been a dumpster fire for five years now. Guys don’t want to come play for a teak that they might win four conference games. The thing is if he had every one coming back thay he should, the team would be pretty good

I have mixed feelings about Heather Lyke and her tenure at Pitt. Imo whatever good she has done has been countered by her extensions of coaches with losing seasons or in Jeff Capel case he was only here barely a season and accomplished nothing. Plus she is responsible for the hire. What do you think and do you feel she realizes now not to extend so willy nilly?
Zeise
12:12
As I have said - she will ultimately be judged by football attendance and the men’s basketball program. She hired this coach and so it is wonderful that the volleyball team is great - a coach she didn’t hire by the way - but ultimately she will be judged by football and basketball, the two revenue sports

Paul, Is it premature to label Devin Bush a bust?  His play this season has deteriorated steadily, reaching (we hope) the bottom last week.  Can he resurrect his game?
Zeise
12:13
Probably because he is coming off a major injury. But he has to start getting better

Paul, It's fashionable in our instant gratification world to allow for a growth process for players in the NFL. At this point, we need to see more of Mason Rudolph before declaring him a bust. His ceiling is probably lower than we'd like, but he may be capable of becoming an average starter in the league. I keep thinking of how well he played against Cleveland in last year's regular season finale. He played a better game than Ben did in all but a couple of games last season IMO. Thoughts, sir?
Zeise
12:15
I agree. I thought Chris Hoke was excellent on this very subject on Cook and Joe today. The weather was terrible, guys had a hard time holding the ball including both quarterbacks, he made some good throws, he made some bad throws. I would love to see him play this week in LA - with a game under his belt, with a week of practice under his belt, with better weather and perhaps with Chase Claypool back - I think he would play much better. He needs to hit some of the throws he missed but I’m not as down on him as some people are
Jeff
12:16
Thanks for the chats.  At  what point in the season do the Pens consider going to sell mode?  Holding out hope but worried we will be right on the cusp of making playoffs and won't make any moves.  What are your thoughts
Zeise
12:18
I think they should be in it now and I heard one of these Penguins experts declare that the new ownership group wants to stay the course and that includes bringing back Malkin and Letang on new contracts. That would be foolish. It is time to trade those two, get some first round picks and rebuild the right way. You have Sidney Crosby so you have a ticket seller, the window is closed, it is time to acknowledge as much

Paul, I wrote to you last week about The Bad News Bears. You lifted my spirits with "they win more than they lose." Alas, this may be true, but so too was the fact that this team continues to find ways to instill panic, nausea, anxiety, and pain-- the Detroit game immediately ranking up there with our weirdest and toughest losses ... I know it was a tie. Ever since Tebow struck Deymarius Thomas for a crushing victory, it has felt this way. Why?
Zeise
12:19
Because they have been a flawed team since then and because they have missed on too many players especially on defense
12:20
And here is the thing - I think some of their talent has been overrated
Mercury
12:20
This Penguin team just doesn’t look very good. Do you think they’ll improve and how long is Sullivan’s job safe if they don’t?
Zeise
12:22
Sullivan is safe for a while. He is an excellent coach and the ownership knows it. As I said before - this team needs to acknowledge it is time to rebuild and stop trying to live in denial by slopping together teams just good enough to get into the playoffs but not good enough to win when they get there

12:22
Paul, if the Pens can't put the wheels back on the wagon ,with the pending team sale, do you think they finally turn page towards the future? Who do you think/who do you want them to trade?
Zeise
12:23
I thought as much but yesterday someone reported the new ownership group wants to stay the course and give guys like Malkin and Letang extensions. I think it is the wrong course but what do I know

12:25
Paul, doesn't it seem like the Boston people are buying the Penguins at the top of the market?
Zeise
12:26
Not really - attendance is down, the team seems to be in a bit of a decline. They are getting a few years of Crosby so that will help keep interest in the team high
The Real TP Hunter
12:26
Who finishes with the better record: 2021-22 Pitt basketball or the 2022 Pirates?
Zeise
12:27
Well I think by winning percentage it is a hard comparison because there are so fewer games in basketball. I think the Pirates may offer a glimmer of hope for the future so I’ll say them

SundayTeflon called one question a "judgement" & another "irrelevant" I know you can't speak for your 2 PPG colleagues that asked the questions but do you ever, as a media member, feel insulted by his inappropriate assertions? So tired of this guy's  act.
Zeise
12:28
I don’t know what you are talking about. Is Sunday Teflon Mike Tomlin?
