According to the report I read, he had been working out and had a hard attack.

Happy Holidays, Paul. In a super weird year for sports, were there any rule or format changes you actually liked and hope stick around? All the best to you and your family.

The DH in the National League. Let's do it. It is way past time

With first pick would you take Najee Harris or etienne?  And then a tackle in 2nd round?   Or would you take the tackle first?    I feel we have “guys” in rb room.   Need a stud   Thoughts?
Zeise
12:45
I would absolutely look to take the best tackle available if it is someone who is graded as a starter. They will be drafting somewhere in the mid-20s probably and so it depends on who is there

What’s on the Christmas dinner menu at the Zeise house?

Always ham, corn and potatoes

I'm hoping the Steelers don't wait too deep in the draft to go after a running back. There may be no team in the NFL with a greater need there.  Many folks say it's not smart to pick a running back in the first round; but have you watched any Alabama football this year? Najee Harris has a unique combination of strength, speed, balance and quick feet.  He doesn't get tackled by the first man to hit him. To my eyes, he's the running back equivalent of Trevor Lawrence. How do you feel about running backs in the first round? We had some good fortune with the last guy named "Harris" drafted in the first round.
Zeise
12:48
I wouldn't take a running back in the first round. I think they absolutely need to get a tackle, that is their biggest need.

How many of the starting Steelers have ever been in a playoff game for any team other than Ben and Pouncey?
Zeise
12:52
Villanueva, DeCastro, Vance McDonald, JuJu, Cam Heyward, Sean Davis, Vince Williams, Joe Haden, Tuitt, Hilton, Watt - just to name a few, all were on the team in 2017 when they lost to Jacksonville.

I really like the Highsmith kid, he seems is doing fine and trying hard, a true Steeler and hopefully he can keep getting better and stay for long time, however Bud injury really looks like the moment this team went south in a hurry, do you think psychologically affected even the offense? They are just like dead kind of..
Zeise
12:54
Yes it was a big moment. It was hard to lose Devin Bush, to replace two of them was a big, big problem
12:58
Wow some technical difficulties just knocked me out but I’m back

Did you ever notice that a lot of so-called Christmas carols are really about snow? Kind of an antiquated thing since most people don’t see snow on Christmas any more.
Zeise

They were written by hopeless romantics who dream about white Christmas!

Is all hope lost this season? Cause next year is not looking any better with all the young QBs in the division. Could be some lean years ahead.
Zeise

I don’t know that all hope is lost but I do think this team is not a likely Super Bowl team. And you are right there are some big changes coming. It will be interesting to see how long it takes them to be a contender again

Merry Christmas to you & your family Paul.  I think Steelers win Sunday IF they start out and remain patient with the run.  Use the short passing game for 1st downs and help keep the D off the field.  They have to increase their time of possession and win ugly.  Thoughts?
Zeise
1:01
Yes. You absolutely have to try and run it early and see if you can get your offense going. I fear if there is too many passes early it will lead to turnovers again and turnovers lead to being down 17-0

Early on, Stephon Tuitt seemed poised to have a big year. What’s happened to him?
Zeise
1:06
Well he was out for a couple games and it seems he hasn’t gotten back to where he was. I thought he was dominated by the Bengals. He is a good player and you have to believe he will snap out of it

I recall how rapidly Peyton Manning's throwing deteriorated in his last season, to the point of being benched on December and regaining the starting job for the postseason, but Denver changed the focus from Manning passing to running the ball and playing defense.  He looked horrible in that SB - made only one good throw, which was a big 2 point conversion, I think, but the won it all because he settled into a game manager role and let the defense carry the team.  Can Ben's ego let him do the same, or more importantly, can Tomlin put the good of the team ahead of Ben's feelings and force Fitchner to do it? That change was Denver's only chance and they took it - seems like it's the Steelers only chance too.

That is the most important question that needs answered - is Ben Roethlisberger willing to do whatever it takes to change his game and the offense to try and win a Super Bowl? Is he willing to hand it off 35 times if that is what it takes?
Greg

Don’t you think Ben needs to practice more during the week?  You never hear of Brady or Breeze taking maintenance days.  You would think he would want to practice to get on the same page with his receivers and that the Steelers would require this.  How hard do they practice during the week anyway?
Zeise
1:09
I do not think he needs to throw more than he is. His arm is a noodle as it is, why ask him to throw 30 or 40 more times a week? I don’t think that is an issue
Dan

You predicted a poor season for the Steelers, then as the season went along you said they've proven they can beat anyone (even when playing poorly - Cowboys game), and now you've written that they're pretty much done.  So... How do you justify all of that being correct?
Zeise
1:15
I predicted they would be 8-8 or 9-7. They were obviously better than that so I was wrong, though right about now I feel vindicated because all of the things I said could/would go wrong have. I said Ben’s arm would be an issue, it took ten games it is an issue. I said the offensive line is aging and well. I said the linebacker spot has no depth and can’t take injuries and, well. So maybe I wasn’t wrong. They beat the Ravens and Titans, they proved they can play with anyone since those are two of the best teams in the AFC. But since then, Ben has looked old, the offensive line has looked older the defense has gotten more and more injured. You know how these things change. I don’t think they are done by the way, I just don’t think they are a Super Bowl team and that hasn’t changed because I’ve said since the start of the season - until someone beats Kansas City with a healthy Pat Mahomes in the playoffs I’m never picking against him. So to be honest, my thoughts on this team haven’t changed much.

Which player on the offensive side of the ball played at or above expectations throughout the entire season? On defense, you would cite 90, 41, 98, 97, and 48.  Others?
Zeise
1:16
On offense? Nobody. I don’t know that a single guy on offense has performed above what we thought and most have been below
Bruce
1:16
If this season continues to go down in flames and Rothlisberger‘s play continues to go south how can the Steelers front office not cut bait on Big Ben?
Zeise
1:17
I think they will but I also think if he is done, he will know it and he will be the one that I step aside.

What is Coach Tomlin really thinking right now? How does he right the ship to at least win the division and maybe one playoff game?
Zeise
1:18
He has to do it on defense. He has to know his defense will lead the way. That’s really what he has to be thinking
Bill in SF
1:18
You say the Steelers offense can't change this late in the season but remember the Broncos did exactly that  - changed from a passing team to a run-the-ball and rely on Von Miller and the defense when they made their 2016 SB run when it became clear in December that Manning could no longer throw the ball.  Manning threw only 2 TD passes in their 3 postseason games but it was enough to get to and win a SB.
Zeise
1:19
Well that’s the kind of change I said the Steelers could make - run more and pass less. I meant they couldn’t completely change their scheme and become something they haven’t been
Dave

I know the injuries and specifics are different, but does not Ben’s situation have the same feel of inevitability as Bradshaw last year?  Bradshaw’s arm gace
Zeise

I don’t know if I’m ready to go there quite yet. It doesn’t look good but then again let’s see how the rest of the year played out

i think ben's in it just for the money, isn't it strange how he said he was coming back next year? i've been saying for years its all about him, in the last 10 years 3 playoff wins !!!!!! lost to tebow of all people in a playoff game, in his 2 super bowls wins only 1 td pass !!!!!! the other win 78 yards passing !!!! vastly over rated, what do you think paul, happy holidays buddy
