Ok I think I figured out how to do this so let’s get started

I keep hearing how bad Conner is but the Steelers don’t make a concerted effort to run the ball.  Hard to do when you’re lineman are in two point stances and in shotgun. Do the Steelers abandon the run too early?
Paul Zeise
12:17
I agree that the running game hasn’t been a priority enough but he hasn’t played well. We have seen a few flashes of the pro bowl player he was last year but for the most part he doesn’t make anyone mis this year

Watching over the first 5 games, the biggest thing I feel is they have no offensive flow. Meaning a play could come give them a gain then they set them selves back with calls that stall the drive. What are your thoughts on Fichtner? He seems to have some good play designs but his calling and situational football awareness seems suspect to me
Paul Zeise
12:23
I think Randy Fichtner has shown some creativity but in general I’m not a fan. I don’t think his play calling makes sense, I don’t like his use of personnel, I think he has handled Mason Rudolph poorly and I think the offense should be better and more productive than it has been even without Ben Roethlisberger. Mike Tomlin’s biggest problem is I don’t think he has good enough coordinators - and that includes the special teams

Hi Paul - do you think that the Steelers need to start getting younger on the O line to improve their run blocking?
Paul Zeise
12:25
Eventually, yes but I think the line is still pretty good. They haven’t played well but I don’t think that is because of age, they just haven’t played well. I do think there is coming a time where they need to start retooling but I think this line still has at least two more productive seasons in it so it isn’t quite a priority yet.

Going house hunting in the D.C area any suggestions?
Paul Zeise
12:27
That’s pretty funny - I will say this: there are many who assume Mike Tomlin would have no interest in the Redskins because he has a great job with the Steelers. I get that but money talks as does the ability to be completely in charge. If he was given a $10 million per year contract like Jon Gruden and full control of the football operation, he’d be a fool not to consider it

What is practice during the season like for a 3rd string QB? I know backups don’t get a lot of reps so I can only imagine a third string QB.  Do they run all the plays in practice or are they just scout team and mental reps?
Paul Zeise
12:38
The third string QB runs the scout team offense so they actually get a lot of run and reps but it is all running the plays of the other teams. This week though he will be running the Steelers offense and a game plan designed for him and so it is very different.

Paul,  With the positive news on Mason any chance he will start Sunday?  Kind of like to see how Duck performs on the big stage. Thank you.
Paul Zeise
12:40
I don’t know if Mason will start. It won’t shock me if he is the backup for Sunday and not used unless he is needed. That’s a scary scary injury and one that teams don’t like to play with. By making him the backup it allows him an extra week of healing without putting himself in jeopardy of losing a week of prep time, which he needs
JerseySteel
12:50
Hi Paul - will they add another QB and RB to the active roster for Sunday's game and if so, who is released to make room?
Paul Zeise
12:52
No i don’t think so, in fact they just cut the QB they signed to be the Lamar Jackson clone last week. It will be Paxton Lynch and Benny Snell football!!
Picksixlisberger
12:54
Will Sunday Night be a Duck Dinner or Mighty Duck movie?
Paul Zeise
12:56
I lost a question from Nick somehow - he asked if James Washington is a bust. I think it is a little early to declare that but I do think he needs to get better and start being more productive than he has been or he will get in that category quickly.
JerseySteel
12:56
Hi Paul - I still think that releasing Tuzar Skipper was a mistake, especially if they do not re-sign Dupree after the season as expected. How has Skipper done for the Giants so far?
Jon in Oregon
12:56
I predict Moncrief will play and have a big game.  What do you think?
Paul Zeise
12:58
Is he even going to get a helmet? I mean it would seem like that’s the case but I feel like he will he be at the bottom of the depth chart so how many opportunities will he really get?
Vick Laginas
12:58
Hey Paul, Any idea what Landry Jones is doing nowadays?
Paul Zeise
12:58
Isn’t he doing something with the XFL! He is the face of that league!!!
Nick
12:58
I fear JW is a bust. DJ looks better already. Your thoughts?
JerseySteel
12:59
Hi Paul - what is your assessment of the play of Fitzpatrick and Vannett since they arrived in trades?
Hi Paul - with James Washington out, will Montcrief play again and do you think the drops are behind him from what you have seen in practice over the last 4 weeks?
Paul Zeise
1:00
Ok the questions are running together for some reason so here ya go:
minkah Fitzpatrick is far better than anyone could have hoped. That trade was excellent even if the puck turns out to be a top five pick or whatever
1:01
I like Vannett more than Vance McDonald for this reason alone - he is actually available to play and not hurt all the damn time. He has done a nice job since he got here
1:02
As I said before about Moncrief - if he is in uniform he will be last on the depth chart right?
Crash Davis
1:02
Hi Paul - is your estimation what % chance is Mike Tomlin the Redskins' HC in 2020?
Paul Zeise
1:03
I think it is higher than most people want to acknowledge - id say maybe 25
percent which isn’t really high but it also isn’t this pipe dream some want to make it out to be
1:04
ok I think I got the technical kinks out this week and next week will be smoother and easier. We will do it every Thursday at noon so jump on in!
