Representative Pramila Jayapal’s argument in her proposal to overturn Citizens United is based on valid concerns surrounding the lack of corporate transparency and unregulated campaign finance practices that undermine the constitutional expressions of the general American public.

I agree with Rep. Jayapal’s idea of ending corporate personhood because there is a severe lack of accountability within political spending within corporations, corporations should not even be personified in the first place.

While some would argue that overturning Citizens United would restrict freedom of speech, it would actually create a less corrupt political system, with a better view of who the people support.

Jayapal´s statement holds true to a certain extent as the court ruling of Citizens United grants corporations the right to the Amendents but does not fully recognize corporations as people, as she claims.

Citizens United should be overturned because it is against the principles of democracy.

citizens united are trying to restore the u.s government to citizens control, through a combination of: education, advocacy, and grass-roots organization; they're seeking to reassert the traditional American values of limited government, freedom of enterprise, strong families, and national sovereignty and security.

Jayapals believes the ruling of Citizens United giving corporations the same rights the constitution gives "the people" is not appropriate for our democracy, so in response to this, she created the We the People Amendment.

Preserving corporate personhood is not beneficial to society nor democracy, and Representative Jayapal’s bill should be passed to correct the malpractice and corruption behind our elections today.

Representative Jayapal argues that Citizens United has threatened our democracy by causing "dark money" to flood our elections. After researching this issue, I'd have to agree with her. I believe Jayapal's  We the People Amendment would go a long way towards restoring the people's voice in a system where the wealthy and corporations today have inordinate sway.
