Raiders have to Draft an Offensive Lineman in the First Round, right?
Andrew Ortenberg

My gut says they do. Jon Gruden wants to emphasize the trenches, and their signing of Kenyan Drake this offseason made it very clear they want to revamp the running game.

After trading away Rodney Hudson and Trent Brown and remaking virtually the entire offensive line, it's the obvious area of need. Gruden wants to have an identity as a tough and physical team, and that starts with the offensive line. As such, I think someone like USC's Alijah Vera-Tucker makes a lot of sense if they go guard. Or if they're dead-set on a tackle, Christian Darrisaw from Virginia Tech.

If they do something other than offensive line, I think it would have to be in the secondary. Someone like cornerback Jaycee Horn from South Carolina falling to them at 17 is the only thing I could see veering them away from drafting an O-lineman.

Someone asked if we're going to do score all of the mock drafts out there for accuracy  (And, in an early draft day bust on my part, I deleted it by accident. Apologies. An extra bro-hug for you!)

Honestly, I don't judge any of the prognosticators.  The draft is impossible to predict by nature, and that's why we all love it.  Though, tbh, I make sure to watch this at least once every draft season

Oh - and this, of course.  Required viewing every April!

What is your best guess on what the Steelers will do in round 1? Running back or offensive lineman? My thoughts are they need to get one of the top 3 backs to improve the running game, and they will probably only be able to do that by taking one of them in round 1, then picking up offensive line help somewhere in rounds 2-4. What do you think? Thanks!

J, I would lean offensive line -- though, it will certainly depend on the board. If Najee Harris is gone by 24, O-line would be my guess -- especially since they are unlikely to trade up.

While it will be tempting for them to take the best linebacker available (just kidding, but seriously) tonight, they have needs at almost every non-David DeCastro O-line spot. This franchise's repeated receiver investments on Day 2 have shown a value-based approach. Taking the second- or third-best back in Round 1 would not represent tremendous value.

Although going O-line first would place pressure on the team to look hard at a running back in the second round, landing one of the top five tackles in the first -- before determining who will succeed James Conner in the second -- would be the better play.

Given that this draft class is supposedly pretty weak, and next year's class potentially very strong, will teams discount trading for this year's picks?  For example, a team usually trades a 3rd this year for a 2nd next year because the pick's value is less in the future, similar to the time value of money principle.  Will we see deals where teams trade a 3rd this year for a 3rd next year because of the supposed imbalance?

I think we will see that. But rather than just being about the weakness of this year's draft class, I think it's more about the uncertainty. Teams have less info than ever before, and specifically a lot of the medical info is incomplete. As such, I think teams will be less aggressive about moving up for guys they aren't 100 percent sold on. A lack of demand for higher picks will then in turn lower the asking price of teams looking to move down.

As we just published in a story on the site, the Falcons have been underwhelmed with the offers they've received for the fourth overall pick, for example. I think we're going to see a lot of that as the draft goes on, and as you alluded to I think the usual compensation charts can be shifted a bit for the trades that we do see.

Who are the Giants Taking?
Andrew Ortenberg
1:55
A lot of people seem to think the Giants are going to draft a receiver, potentially Alabama's DeVonta Smith. I'm not so sure. The team just gave Kenny Golladay a huge contract, and they also have guys like Darius Slayton, Sterling Shepard, and Evan Engram. In other words, Daniel Jones has enough pass-catchers.

What Jones really needs now is better protection. Remember the team cut Kevin Zeitler earlier this offseason, so I think Alijah Vera-Tucker is a definite option here if Dave Gettleman wants a new guard. If Gettleman goes defense, I would lean toward Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons being the pick. Both Tony Pauline and Daniel Jeremiah had the Giants picking Parsons in their final mocks, and those are two of the most plugged-in draft guys out there.

What are the odds the Vikings move up or down in the 1st?
Andrew Ortenberg
2:01
I don't see the Vikings trading up. Remember, Minnesota traded away their second-round pick in the Yannick Ngakoue deal. They do have an extra third-rounder, but without that second-rounder I just don't see them giving up the capital to move up.

Picking at 14th, I also don't think a trade down is particularly likely, since it's a bit of an awkward spot for teams looking to move up. That could change if a quarterback like Justin Fields or Trey Lance slip further than expected. In this unprecedented draft environment, that certainly can't be ruled out. But in all likelihood I think Minnesota will stand pat at 14, and a lot of smart guys I respect (including Jeremiah) seem to think they'll go after an edge rusher. Kwity Paye and Jaelan Phillips would both be options in that scenario.
