I find it really interesting that in the NHL trade rumors tend to be really quiet, or we don't hear much about them until they're near-imminent. Contrast that with the MLB, where I swear there there's rumors all the time, and deals seem to take days or weeks to put together.  Why the difference?

Contrast again with the NBA for instance, which is filled with Woj bombs out of nowhere.

In sports reporting, journalists need some inspiration to go digging quite often. If it's a player that no one expects, no one asks about them and it seems to come out of nowhere.

A note on the Capitals. They are now at the 50 contract limit.
They already were going to have to move out money to bring anything in, but now they actually HAVE to move out a contract to bring one in.

The amount of preparation and systems that go into football makes in-season trades much more difficult.
It's also why players often struggle following them.

Depends what they do on the wing.
If they can land Stone, for instance, a lesser center could be the answer.
If Anisimov is the only name, it's not enough.

It seems like allot of the Kings players available today are somewhat 2nd tier, compared to the others being talked about. Is it safe to say they may not go anywhere until closer to the deadline time to those who have missed out on their #1 target?

That's a good way of putting it.
No one is falling over themselves to get a King, but they have valuable players that could help.
