Hey folks, welcome to the first chat of the new year.
6:03
To all the Rangers fans, Lias Andersson gets the 2-0 goal.

Hey Gavin!  I haven't heard much talk about Jacob Larsson for the Ducks lately.  Is he still a future top 4 D man in Anaheim?  Can he get the call this year?  Also, what are your thoughts on their other young D, Mahura, Megna, etc, any real future?  Thanks!
Gavin Lee
6:08
Larsson hasn't played in over a month in the AHL. He's dealing with a groin injury if I remember correctly.
6:09
He still has a lot to do to jump into the top 4, but there is a ton of potential there.
Remember he's just 20. Lots of time left.
As for others...Mahura is one of my favorite D prospects in the league. I thought he should have easily made Team Canada over Cal Foote.
6:10
He'll play in the NHL for sure.
Calvin Pickard

CALVIN. PICKARD
Gavin Lee

Hodor?

6:13
Do you see the Ducks making any other moves? If so, which is a bigger priority, a forward or defenseman?
Gavin Lee
6:14
I think another forward could help, but that could just be them getting healthy. Eaves likely won't be back this year, and another guy like him to help the PP could make a difference.
6:15
To answer the first part though, I don't think they'll make a big splash.
Maybe add a veteran name.
Robert
6:15
Do you think Tampa's set as long as they are healthy? Or are they going to add somewhere at the deadline?
Gavin Lee
6:15
I really don't think they need to add anything.
6:16
But with Budaj going down, I wouldn't be surprised to see them add a rental goaltender.
6:18
He hasn't been good anyway, and Domingue probably isn't the answer. For a team with real Stanley Cup aspirations, you have to wonder if someone else is on their mind.
Danny
6:19
Ericsson has played some pretty good D for the Wings, do you think he could be easier to trade now, perhaps with retained salary? What do you think Detroit can get for him?
Gavin Lee
6:20
I'd imagine very, very little even with retained salary. This is a 33 year old guy with a full no-trade clause, a relatively expensive contract with two more years on it, an injury history and no real offensive upside.
He's not even right-handed..which would help.
Aaron
6:21
What is fair value for Anthony Duclair?
Gavin Lee
6:22
That's a tough one. He doesn't really have much value right now, because he's almost in non-qualifying range.
There's no doubt that he has talent.
6:23
But with no contract past this year, and no real improvement from last year, and people will be pointing to that huge shooting percentage as the sole reason that he blew up a couple of years ago.
I imagine they'll have to wait to find a single GM who really believes in him, and is willing to part with a mid-round pick.
LeBrun reported a little while ago that the trade request was submitted in November.
They still haven't found a deal.

Noticed on CapFriendly that Simon Despres buyout has a cap hit of $0 for the entirety of the buyout. Is this true? How would that have come about? Mutual contract termination?
Gavin Lee
6:26
Err, I'll have to look further into this but I believe that's incorrect.
6:27
I think it may have broken because the next two years the Ducks actually get a cap credit.
Unless something's changed, the breakdown should be as follows:

2017-18: $1.26MM
2018-19: -$338K
2019-20: -$338K
2020-21: $963K
2021-22: $663K
2022-23: $663K
2023-24: $663K
2024-25: $663K
But I'll look into it further for you.

Happy New Year Gavin.  Apologies if this is stale or irrelevant but as a NJ fan I think Karlsson would make them a real top contender.  Ottawa would be nuts to trade him but what do you think of Severson, Michael Mcleod, 2 firsts and whatever other non roster player or prospect not named Joey Anderson or Colby Sissons Ottawa wants?  Thanks and best wishes!
Gavin Lee
6:30
That's definitely getting close, but I do not think that Ottawa will move him in season.
6:31
Speculating on packages doesn't really make any sense yet, because if he's put on the market it will be a bidding war, not just a value-for-value deal.
Henrik
6:32
What Henrik is having the best season so far?
Gavin Lee
6:32
It has to be Lundqvist doesn't it?
Aaron
6:32
Has Nail Yakupov proven himself as a NHLer going forward?
Gavin Lee
6:33
He has certainly not.
