PHR Chat With Gavin Lee: 02/01/18

Gavin Lee
6:01
Welcome welcome to another PHR live chat.
6:02
It's Gary Bettman day, so I'll only be answering questions about the Arizona Coyotes.
6:03
Kidding, kidding. Bettman's tenure as league commissioner hit 25 years today though, and I implore everyone to read this profile out of Toronto on his time in the NHL:
https://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/2018/01/31/in-his-25-years-as-nh...
6:04
It's fascinating, and a ridiculous amount of work.
6:05
On to the questions.
Luke
6:05
With Schwartz back and Hutton being a top goalie. Do the blues still need to make a move?
Sean S.
6:05
Do you see the Blues making a trade at the deadline? Who you think is the likely go after?
Gavin Lee
6:05
Lots about the Blues already.
6:06
It seems like they're still looking for another forward, but as I've said in these chats going back months, a rental doesn't really seem like the best fit.
More likely would be a player with term, at least a year or two.
Karl
6:07
Army said he wouldn't go after a rental. Things to change though
Gavin Lee
6:07
Right. I wouldn't imagine any GM just rules out things completely, even if he tells that to the media.
Derek Stepan
6:07
Do the Rangers regret trading me and Raanta to the desert?
Gavin Lee
6:08
I don't think they do, actually. Even though this season hasn't gone perfectly, the team is quite pleased with Lias Andersson and they've locked in on a sort of on-the-run rebuild.
6:09
Sure, both players could be useful right now. But their plan isn't really to compete for the Cup just this year.
Karl
6:09
What is Michael Grabner worth? People keep saying a first rounder but I don't see how someone who averages 14 min a game is worth that?
Gavin Lee
6:09
I would be shocked if Grabner netted a first round pick, especially this season.
6:10
But a second rounder is definitely possible, like Brian Boyle last year.
I get that Grabner has a huge goal total, but teams know what he is, and it's not a player you can slot into your top six expecting continued offense.
Pens Fan
6:11
What do you see the Pens and GMJR doing?  They need a third line center.  I like Brassard from Ottawa.  Any chances on bringing him in?  Played great against us last year in the playoffs.
Gavin Lee
6:11
Brassard is probably a little too pricey for the Penguins to install in that third line.
6:12
I'd imagine it would be someone a little cheaper, or on an expiring deal.
But they will definitely add a center before March.
Brian
6:13
Any chance in the Bruins making a push for a big player at the deadline?
Gavin Lee
6:13
I don't think they're adding anything other than a lower-tier veteran option, and why not?
That team is really good, and doesn't need a lot more to be competitive.
Calvin Pickard
6:14
CALVIN. PICKARD.
Gavin Lee
6:14
I should just not start the answers until you show up.
Sean S.
6:14
Ready that Tavares could move if so where you think he end up landing?
Gavin Lee
6:15
Hard to tell at this point. There will be plenty of teams that want him, but few that could actually slide $12.5MM into their salary structure.
If he hits the open market, get ready for some wild speculation.
Anthony
6:16
Could the Blues look to the Grabner and Nash in NY as options?
Gavin Lee
6:16
Don't think they are very good fits even if they weren't rentals, but since they are I doubt it even more.
Stanthony
6:18
Who’s shootout goal do you think was prettier last night, Tatar’s or Abdelkader’s?
Gavin Lee
6:18
Gotta go with Tatar.
T
6:18
Mike Fisher is back, but where do the Preds actually go from here?
Gavin Lee
6:18
Back to the playoffs?
They'll be a deep, tough team to face.
Chris Story
6:19
Do the stars make a trade for a winger before the deadline?
Gavin Lee
6:20
They'd definitely benefit from adding one, but they're a tough match because of their limited cap space.
