Gavin Lee

Hey folks.
5:16
First things first, my bracket is still alive.
Though holy crap Princeton.
5:17
Anyway. We'll take some questions for a few minutes before starting..I imagine this'll be another slow week. Not much happening outside of the NCAA guys.

Can Kings shed a large contract this off season to do a mini rebuild?
Gavin Lee
5:26
They tried to move Gaborik out at the deadline, and they'll try again this summer.
5:27
Last year Brown was a buyout candidate and he is again, but this time Marian is right there beside him.

5:27
What happens if Kings miss playoffs? Rebuild, front office / coaching changes?
Gavin Lee
5:27
I think they blame it on Quick's injury and avoid the fact that they haven't built a good enough forward group.
5:28
Reload and try again, likely falling somewhere between 7th-12th again in the West.
Jake
5:28
Do the leafs move William Nylander for defense? What could they get for him?
Gavin Lee
5:29
They could get a king's ransom for him, but they won't move him. Not yet at least.
The contracts don't start coming till after next year, and they'll wait until then to make a decision on the future of the team.
Those three rookies could be the start of something unstoppable up front in Toronto, and they'll try as hard as possible to hang onto it.
5:30
James van Riemsdyk on the other hand..
ATX Royalty
5:30
Is it just you and me today? haha
Gavin Lee
5:31
It seems like it. I knew it'd be slow..that sleepy trade deadline really pushed people to other things.
But c'mon! Dwight King!
Jake
5:33
What could ANA get in return for Vatanen?
Gavin Lee
5:34
I think a lot of that depends on George McPhee.
If the Ducks can figure out a deal to protect their defensemen from the expansion draft, they'll have an easier time shopping on at the ENTRY draft.
5:35
If he holds strong, and threatens to take one, they'll have to settle for something smaller. Move him or Manson for something smaller, but still exceptional. A young forward with potential, or established guy on an expiring contract they can flip if they have to.
5:36
Teams are in such trouble on the back end that both will be worth a lot.
Brandon
5:36
What kind of contracts do you expect for the Penguins upcoming RFAs? Schultz, Sheary, Rust, etc
Gavin Lee
5:37
Schultz is going to get paid. He'll get a deal like Shattenkirk's last one.
Sheary and Rust have a lot less leverage, as both wouldn't be as effective in other organizations.

5:38
which do you see as coming awy with the steal of the deadline?
Gavin Lee
5:38
It's gotta be the Canucks.
5:39
Goldobin is already an NHL player, and Dahlen is going to show it soon.

5:40
Who do the Kings lose to LV?
Gavin Lee
5:40
Brayden McNabb would be my guess, but there is still so much movement to be done. They won't want to leave him exposed if they can help it.
Brandon
5:41
Presuming Fleury is gone next year, which is likely, do the Penguins sign a vet to backup Murray or go with Jarry?
Gavin Lee
5:41
I'd imagine they'll bring a vet in.
Going with those two seems like a recipe for disaster, as good as Murray has been.
5:42
There will be lots of goaltenders available, and with Murray still relatively cheap they can afford an established guy
Harold
5:43
How do you see the pacific division shaking out? Do the sharks hold onto 1st or could another team take it away from them?
Gavin Lee
5:43
The Sharks are #1 for sure.
Brandon
5:44
Do you see the NHL going back to the traditional top 8 playoff format?
Gavin Lee
5:44
There has been tons of chatter about playoff format recently, mostly because of the Metro/Atlantic split.
But I think they're going to keep it.
