Thanks for doing this weekly chat, even though it hasn't taken off in as high a volume as some of the Rumors family chats. I'd try to fire off some more questions, but I exhausted most of them last week. Loved the NYE outdoor game idea between the Stars and Preds though.

MLBTR took a long time to really take off, and it's not nearly as regional or specialized as hockey tends to be.

What do you think the "Big New Year's Eve" event the NHL is planning will be? Rumor is they want Montreal part of it but the already announced Centennial Classic could complicate things.

Yeah, Freidge only said they wanted Montreal in something soon..I doubt it would be the NYE one. The Ottawa one is also called the NHL100 Classic by the way..not the Centennial. I'm being serious, and it's ridiculous.

It also isn't being held at TD Place, even though it is. Because you can't have the Scotiabank NHL100 Classic at another bank's stadium..
It's just generically in Lansdowne Park.

I'm not even sold the NYE event will be an outdoor game, though I guess with the way the NHL throws them around I should be.
There will definitely be an alumni component, with as many of the top 100 as possible returning.

On a more pressing issue, when will the NHL adopt a rational suspension philosophy? It's been broken forever and the constant ridicule has to be breaking the old rule of "any press is good press" mentality.

Honestly, I think a big part of it is the constant turnover in the Department of Player Safety.

They need to re-structure that with people who aren't tied to the game so strongly and have internal biases that they can't control.

Alright, honestly it doesn't make any sense. If it's interference, it's interference. Manning hit Guentzel after he kicked the puck forward, Risto hit him when he never got it. I'm not sure I see a difference.
Risto makes much less head contact, and doesn't leave his feet.

What is a realistic ask for Duchene in the offseason? And does he get traded?

Realistic ask should still be a top prospect, first rounder and a young defenseman. Sakic was right in not selling low at the deadline.
There's no reason he can't get that much in the summer at some point, to a team that thinks Duchene is a center still.
