Gavin Lee
6:06
Hello again folks to a live chat.
Lots of things to talk about!
Draisaitl gets a boatload, Zajac out for six months..
Duchene still on the block
Ben
6:09
So with zajac hurt, you think shero might add a vanek or jagr
Gavin Lee
6:09
I've thought for a while that Jagr might be able to help the Devils. I actually think he'd be a nice fit alongside Hischier, who is really good at creating turnovers in the neutral zone.
6:10
But I'm not sure that the Zajac injury really changes anything on that front.
6:11
I have an inkling that Michael McLeod might crack the Devils out of camp.
Josh
6:11
Would a trade around Vatanen and Duchene work? Ducks would add I assume.
Gavin Lee
6:11
I'm sure the Ducks would, but Vatanen isn't young enough for the Avs.
6:12
Three years from UFA, the only way he's an asset for them is to flip.
Quintin
6:12
How good would the Habs have been if they had all 4 of Pacioretty, Drouin, Galcheynuk & Radulov? Did Bergevin drop the ball on the latter? Because Rad could have easily fit with the remaining cap space. I don't get it
Gavin Lee
6:13
It would have been a powerful group, that's for sure.
But think about the fact that they owe Price and Weber $18MM a season until they're each 70 years old.
6:14
Another big ticket mid-thirties guy would cripple them even more.
Apparently they did offer him the same deal though.
6:15
I think they're plenty good enough offensively without Radulov, though they'll have trouble containing teams that have a good 1-2 center combo.
Ben
6:15
The obvious is zacha hischier taking the spot but if henrique got called upoon for C duty, shero might add a winger.
Gavin Lee
6:16
He had room to add a winger before Zajac though, in my opinion.
I don't think him going down really changes the Jagr/Vanek option.
If they believe they can help, they should have already been after them.
Brian
6:24
Anthony Duclair is still unsigned.  Would you try to sign him long-term or give him a bridge deal instead?
Gavin Lee
6:25
It's definitely a bridge deal for me, until he proves that he can repeat any of his offensive production. Remember that the 20-goal year came on an insane shooting percentage.
6:26
And there is little reason for Duclair to lock himself into a salary at his lowest point.
dab
6:27
How much does pastrnak sign for?
Gavin Lee
6:28
I don't think he gets quite as much as Draisaitl, or the eight year term.
6:29
If they're serious about keeping it closer to Marchand's number, they can't buy out the maximum number of UFA years.
But I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it's over 7 per season.
Larry
6:29
60 mill 8 years
Gavin Lee
6:30
That's not unreasonable.
6:31
For those reading live...do you think Pastrnak is worth Larry's suggestion? We've had quite the conflicting thoughts in the comments sections.
Larry
6:32
Not in this NHL or may have to be traded
Gavin Lee
6:32
I would be shocked if they trade him this summer.
Brian
6:33
Even though they have enough cap space to keep him around this year, would it make more sense for Edmonton to move Nugent-Hopkins now rather than wait until they get into cap trouble?
Gavin Lee
6:35
While it's probably the right thing to do for the long run, it's hard to move both Eberle and RNH in the same summer that you're expected to compete for the Stanley Cup.
They'll definitely have to revisit the decision next summer, but I think they keep him and take a run this year.
Larry
6:37
Could be a tough signing
Gavin Lee
6:37
Pastrnak?
It's definitely tough.
But I don't think there is any worry there yet.
