Gavin Lee

Hello and welcome folks to another live chat.
This one will have to be a little shorter, but start firing questions and we'll get right into it.
As an aside...Ryan Malone is back!
Rad Marchand
6:13
Who is Pittsburgh looking at for their 3rd C?
Gavin Lee
6:14
It sure sounds like they're willing to go into the season without acquiring someone new.
Rutherford has kept saying that he wants an "impact" player, instead of the ones he knows he can get right now.
I think he's waiting for someone else to shake loose before pulling the trigger.
6:15
Some have suggested Staal, but I can't see that happening.
Rad Marchand
6:15
Whats the deal with the Bruins and Pastrnak's agent? Why have they received no response from him?
Gavin Lee
6:15
Barry was travelling, the two sides are going to meet tomorrow.
Patrick
6:15
Do you see the capitals making a trade for a defenseman
Gavin Lee
6:15
Not without moving out cap space along with it, which is tough to do right before the season.
6:16
They are right up against it, and are going to be in a real tough spot all season.
That said, Kuznetsov has said a few times now that he's putting more on himself this year, and all reports out of optionals are that Ovechkin looks great.
Karl
6:16
Do you think Kyrou on the blues is the real deal?
Gavin Lee
6:16
I absolutely do.
6:17
His game has taken a huge step forward, and I actually think he'll lead the OHL in scoring this year.
Karl
6:17
No1 or no2 center?
Gavin Lee
6:18
He's more of a second-line guy, but I also didn't see this development jump coming yet. Maybe he'll turn into something even better.
Blues fans should be very excited for him though.
Rad Marchand
6:18
How likely is it that Duchene gets moved before camp starts?
Gavin Lee
6:19
I still think it's more likely than not, but boy is it a weird situation.
Colorado in general has been a really difficult group to get a read on this summer. From the Dubas almost hiring, to Duchene sticking around, Zadorov's deal hitting a snag, and somehow convincing the two college free agents
6:20
to sign, they've been anything but predictable.
Robert
6:20
Will the avs have enough defenseman to start the year? or will they have to call vegas
Josh
6:20
Does Colorado even have enough defenseman to play a game currently?
Gavin Lee
6:21
Robert and Josh, great minds and all that.
6:22
They could have enough without making a move. Johnson, Barrie, Barbeiro, Cowen, Mironov and Siemens...
Bigras maybe,
And I still think Zadorov signs.
It's not a good group, but there's enough to not have to go out and spend on another one.
6:23
(I know Cowen is just there on a PTO.)
Dan
6:23
Any thoughts on the Beauchemin deal?  Who gets kicked aside once Vats and Lindhold return from injury?
Gavin Lee
6:24
Hard to say who would get pushed out because that's assuming health for everyone up until that point, but there's no reason they couldn't carry 8 defenseman after their return anyway
6:25
I'm not as sold as some that Larsson will play with them this year
But I kind of like the Beauchemin signing. He's not going to add much value, but he does eat minutes without killing you.
That's all a team like that needs from their 6/7 guy.
Josh
6:26
You mentioned in a previous post that Steel has been named Captain of Regina, and that could effect his playing with the big squad, at least early on.  If he has a great camp, does that change things?  Do you think there's a chance he begins the season Ducks?  If not, when do you think he gets the call?
Gavin Lee
6:27
I've maintained for a while that I don't think Steel is ready, and him being named captain of the Pats tends to make me think Anaheim agrees. I don't think Regina would have done that without talking to them/him/whoever first.
But, there is always a chance of an injury in camp that makes the Ducks change their minds
