Gavin Lee
6:25
Hey folks, welcome to another chat.
Start was delayed by the Foligno news, but we'll get started in the next couple of minutes.
6:26
Do you think Foligno gets a little boost in production moving from Buffalo to Minnesota?
Noah
6:28
NYR news?
Gavin Lee
6:28
Biggest news today was that Marc Staal is fighting for a roster spot.
AV was very clear that he's not willing to hand a spot to him, now that there is a lot of competition in New York.
6:29
I'll believe it when I see it, but there could be a real change in how New York operates over the next few years.
6:30
JT Miller is going to start at center, but that doesn't feel like a long-term decision.
I think they're just getting him used to it.
I'd put Lias Andersson there and let him run with it.
Bert
6:30
What would it take for Anaheim to land Duchene?
Gavin Lee
6:30
I truly believe it'll still take a lot.
6:31
Vatanen is too old for Colorado, so it would have to be Montour...or MAYBE Larsson.
Plus a first, plus another prospect.
Less if Montour.
Robert
6:32
What is Duchene? 1C, 2C, Two-way, offensive?
Gavin Lee
6:32
2C, speed demon.
Lots of teams see him as a winger, but I think that's more the system than anything. I think he'd do just fine as a second line center in a better organization.
Bert
6:32
The problem is the salary. Vatanen would likely have to move to make room for Duchene. Would NOT trade Montour for Duchene even 1 for 1.
Gavin Lee
6:33
Don't worry, the Ducks wouldn't either.
I just mean that Colorado would be asking for it.
JG
6:34
Do Franson or Stuart end up making the Hawks? Either have anything left in the tank?
Gavin Lee
6:34
I think Franson does, on both accounts.
6:35
In the right deployment, Franson can still be a deadly puck mover.
It's just that skating ability that is worrisome.
But when you look at who he'll really have to compete with for the Hawks depth spots..
6:36
I mean Michal Roszival is the default #6 right now is he not?
JG
6:37
How could Bowman have left the Hawks D so depleted, when that's where they've been strong when they've gone all the way. Roszival is the #7 currently.
Gavin Lee
6:37
Paying Brent Seabrook close to $7MM is a big part of that.
6:38
It's just hard to keep the pipeline full, when you are so cap constrained every year.
JG
6:40
I'd trade Anisimov for another #4 D. They've won with no 2nd line center before. Haven't won with 2 top 4 defensemen.
Gavin Lee
6:40
They will in the next couple of years, when his trade protection wears off.
10 team approved list next summer, nothing after that.
6:41
Don't get me wrong, I think the Hawks are still a contender this year.
Saad is an outstanding two-way player. He might actually make them better than Panarin.
6:42
I think one of the young forwards probably steps up.
And they still have Duncan Keith to skate 48 minutes a night.
Robert
6:42
If Chicago moves Anisimov then what are they going to do for centers? Kane needs the puck somehow(faceoffs)
Gavin Lee
6:42
There will be options for inexpensive ones.
6:43
A guy like Schmaltz might prove he can do it.
