What's up folks! Welcome to another chat.
First of all, I'd like to announce that I'm 0-3 in fantasy football, but I traded for Terrelle Pryor so everything is fine now.
6:07
Also, hockey starts next week!
Jim
6:14
What are the odds someone finally takes a gamble and signs Anderson to an offer sheet?
Gavin Lee
6:14
I'd say almost zero chance of that happening.
6:15
It would cost a second-round pick, because if he's going to sign an offer it won't be less than $2MM
Troy
6:17
How many rookies will the flyers take into the regular season?
Gavin Lee
6:18
Three, maybe? Patrick, Lindblom and one of Sanheim/Morin?
I'm not close enough to that situation to know who has the inside track right now, but there will be several.
nucks fan
6:19
how do you see the canucks doing this year and what kind of year do think brock boeser will have>
Gavin Lee
6:19
I think the Canucks will have a better than expected, but still rather poor first half and sell at the deadline.
Then plummet and have a top 5 pick again.
Boeser is a bright spot, and will likely crack 50 points if given the chances he's had so far in camp.
6:20
He's an early favorite to push for the Calder.
Peter
6:20
Looks like Lias Andersson didn't make the Rangers roster like many expected. Do you see any surprises of other young players who might make an NHL roster?
Gavin Lee
6:20
Count me as one of them. They kept Filip Chytil instead, which I think is only as a nine game trial.
6:21
I don't think Chytil is as ready as he's looked in the preseason, and when Fast returns he'll be moved out.
But who knows, maybe he surprises right away and forces their hand.
6:22
Other surprises around the league, Logan Brown in Ottawa..Miro Aaltonen in Toronto..Victor Mete in Montreal...
Samuel Girard may crack the Nashville lineup with Ellis injured
Half the St. Louis roster will be rookies.
6:23
One surprise the other way for me, along with Andersson, was Zach Aston-Reese in Pittsburgh.
I'm a big fan, and I thought he'd done enough.
Mike
6:24
Is the Leafs D core good enough for an extended playoff run?
Gavin Lee
6:24
You know I would have told you no at one point this summer. But I think it is now.
6:25
Maybe not good enough to win the Cup, but with the firepower they're going to generate a round or two could definitely be had.
The depth they've created with the European signings should be talked about more.
Mike
6:26
Thanks... and will the Sabers push for a playoff spot?
Gavin Lee
6:26
I can see them being a bubble team that pushes, but it would take a healthier year from several guys.
6:27
If you were to compare the two, Buffalo doesn't have the same defensive depth and will have trouble dealing with injuries.
But, still people are underestimating how good Jack Eichel is.
Mike
6:28
Who's better, Eichel or Matthews?
Gavin Lee
6:29
Thanks for losing me a whole audience Mike.
Seriously though it's tough.
6:30
Matthews isn't as far ahead as a lot of people think. He's a superstar no doubt, but there are flaws in his game like any other. He can sometimes shy away from contact if it's coming in hard, and doesn't carry the puck as much as you'd like sometimes.
Eichel has flaws as well.
For one, he's not the type of dominant back-checking presence Matthews is.
6:31
He's less capable of finding loose pucks. But he can create more for his teammates in space.
I'd probably take Matthews right now, but a healthy season from Eichel may change some minds.
