I don't think it's anywhere near that point, but the Ducks do really like Lukas Dostal.
6:30
If someone like Gibson ever became available you would have to think the Avalanche would be interested.
But there are others who will be available.
6:31
I wonder about a guy like Frederik Andersen, if he gets to market. But that's still a long way away. Grubauer is it for now.
Chris
6:31
What teams do you think surprise us this year, making the playoffs and/or missing the playoffs?
Gavin Lee
6:32
One of Edmonton/Calgary/Winnipeg is going to miss the playoffs I think, and it's going to have a huge impact next offseason.
6:33
I should say two, probably, shouldn't I. Wow that division is going to be a bloodbath.
6:34
In terms of surprise teams challenging, are the Rangers a surprise? I think in that division they probably would be.
Mike
6:34
Reading that Kaprizov shesterkin or Lafreniere for ROTY.
Gavin Lee
6:34
Lots of other candidates, but those are probably the favorites right now.

Hey Gavin!  Glad we're back!  What are your thoughts on the Ducks this year and beyond?  Do the young guys step it up?  Who are you looking at?
Gavin Lee
6:36
I may have wavered on this over the last couple of years, but have never been  high on the group of young forwards that the Ducks put together. The Jones/Steel/Comtois group. I just don't see the real difference-making upside in that group.

BUT

That all changes with the Zegras-Drysdale-Dostal wave. Very excited to see that come, but it's still down the road.
6:37
Anaheim should be sellers again.
6:38
Rakell, Lindholm, Manson are all UFA in 2022. That can kick start a rebuild like I spoke of earlier, and they could be in a "perennial playoff push" by 2023.

late to the chat but wanted to ask about Tarasenko.  is his shoulder injury career threatening? I had heard it was far worse than the team has let on.  thanks.
Gavin Lee
6:39
They are still waiting to re-evaluate next month. Everyone will know more then, but I have heard those whispers as well.
6:40
I wouldn't read into them until the evaluation.

Do you think the Bruins are in a wait and see with their young D. before trying to acquiring one? Also do you think a lot of teams are not anxious to do too many moves with the expansion draft at end of season. Re- the 7/3/1 model or 8 skaters/1 model?
Gavin Lee
6:41
Not only the expansion draft, but there are so many complications with COVID restrictions/border issues and the flat cap that trading is very difficult.
In fact, the management around the league has worked hard to push that messaging all training camp. How difficult trading will be.
For the Bruins specifically, they are committed to seeing what the young D bring
6:42
And pivoting later with more information
Chris
6:43
What teams is in best cap situation for the deadline and the summer?
Gavin Lee
6:43
I mean, the Senators have something like $11MM in cap space still. But that's not really indicative of what they could actually spend right now.
6:44
The team that has the best cap situation in the league is Detroit. Anthony Mantha is the only player on the roster signed through 2023-24 and he only just inked that deal
Yzerman can do whatever he wants to form that club his way.
Chris
6:45
Care to speculate what the league does if the border is still closed come the SC Semifinals?
Gavin Lee
6:45
I really couldn't. That's above my head, but I hope by the time we get there we'll be in a better situation.
John
6:45
If Stamkos stays healthy are the Lightning the favorites going into a playoff where Kuch comes back?
Gavin Lee
6:45
They're definitely the favorites right now.
6:46
The fact that they can put out a devastating lineup without one of the best players in the world is insane.
Mike
6:48
Will Ottawa regret taking Sanderson at 5 with guys like drysdale Rossi Perfetti askarov still on the board?
Gavin Lee
6:49
I think Sanderson is going to be a really good NHL player for a really long time.
Maybe that's more valuable to a team that already a handful of huge potential kids
6:50
But kind of like Adam Larsson in 2011--I think they'll look and say 'darn, we could have had Mark Scheifele, Sean Couturier, Dougie Hamilton.'
(Sanderson has a higher ceiling than what Larsson became, but there's certainly no guarantee he gets there)
Mike
6:52
Any update on Rossi? How long is he out
Gavin Lee
6:52
Indefinitely still. I haven't heard any update.
Which is terrible, because I love Marco Rossi
Mikedickinson
6:53
Canes look deep this season and they’ve got some good players close to moving in ((Bean, Suzuki, Jarvis). Goaltending scares me. Any chance to get a proven #1 guy?
