Gavin Lee

Welcome to another chat! It's been a while.
I'll get started at the top of the clock

What are the chances nicklas backstrom has played his last game? How would this work with the cap situation for the capitals?
Gavin Lee
6:01
I can't really handicap it at this point, but it appears to be less than zero, which is a travesty.
It's hard to imagine the Capitals without Backstrom, but he's been battling so hard just to get on the ice
6:02
As for their cap situation, it would help, sort of
If Backstrom does end up in LTIR limbo, I imagine the Capitals would move the contract so they're not stuck in it for the next several years

Oilers and Flames forget to play defence last night???
Gavin Lee
6:03
It wasn't just the defense
There was some brutal goaltending
What a wild game

Does Toronto make a drastic change to their roster this off-season?
Gavin Lee
6:04
This question has been asked for years now, and my answer has always been "I don't think so"
6:05
This year...I'm still probably on that side, but it's a lot closer
I do think that they are going to be looking at some bigger splashes, but Dubas isn't going to just trade Nylander for scrap, like some are suggesting
Chris Drury
6:06
Filip Chytil looks pretty good.  Am I still going after Copp or Strome at the end of the season?  That Kid line is playing better than my 2nd line.
Gavin Lee
6:06
I think there is still a real desire to get Copp signed, but you're right in that those kids are playing great.
6:07
Gives them lots of options--sign those guys if they are at a reasonable number, move on if they're not
Mike
6:07
Minny, who stays Fiala or dumba? And will Rossi and Addison be full time next year
Gavin Lee
6:07
I think it's pretty much a given that Fiala will be gone at this point
I expect Rossi to be on the team full-time, Addison will still have to battle probably

Nick Paul has been a great addition to the Lightning, can they realistically afford to keep him?
Gavin Lee
6:08
The amazing part is that Paul wasn't asking for very much before the trade
I think any agent is going to suggest he waits to the open market though
Because that Coleman contract might seriously be waiting for him now
6:09
I don't think the Lightning can afford to keep him, unless there is a way cooler market than I expect
Sully

Any sense of the situation with the Bruins and Cassidy? Are they seriously considering letting him go? Seems to me that Cassidy ain’t the issue
Gavin Lee
6:10
This is only from their interviews, but it seemed like Neely was very upset about the way they played on the road this season/playoffs.
6:11
I don't get the feeling that they're going to make a move, but maybe they have someone else in mind
The one thing to remember is that he has only one year left, and perhaps this is more about not wanting to commit past that at a bigger number
Detroit
6:12
Read that edvinsson could be on the roster next year. Is he that ready or good?
Gavin Lee
6:12
He is exceptional
He is ready for the NHL. Whether he'll excel right away like Seider is another story, but I don't think it would be rushing him to put him on the roster to start
Mike
6:13
who will be better long term wright Slafkovsky Cooley? Personally I like Cooley
Gavin Lee
6:13
It's impossible to know for sure right now, but I lean Slafkovsky
Sorry, I thought it was just between him and Cooley
6:14
I still have Wright ahead, slightly
Then Slafkovsky, then Cooley
But I wouldn't be upset landing any of them

What can Habs do, what with the salary constraints.   Who do they take at number 1?
