Assuming Wright goes first. How would you rate him compared to the last 10-15 drafts? Upper tier, mid tier or lower tier? Based on how you felt of the #1s at the time
Gavin Lee
6:35
Wow that's an interesting one. So 15 drafts goes back to..Patrick Kane
6:36
He is probably lower tier, maybe mid
6:37
I mean he's obviously behind the Kane/Stamkos/Tavares/McDavid/Matthews group
He's probably ahead of the Yakupov, Nugent-Hopkins, Nico Hischier group for me
(This is all pre-draft)
6:38
Lower-mid
Is my answer
He's a good player! Wright's best ability I think is how he can get his shot off in traffic and from different positions
He doesn't need to wind up in space
6:39
I personally don't like the "he plays like Patrice Bergeron" kinds of silliness because defensive structure in junior hockey isn't anything like it is in the NHL, so how would we possibly know that
6:40
Yes, he has a commitment to his own end, but comparing him to arguably the best defensive center in the history of hockey is a little much I think
Necas fan club
6:41
what happened to him this year? Thought he would bust out 70+point guy. Is that projection over this early or can he regain his form
Gavin Lee
6:41
I still believe!
6:42
It should be noted that he actually had more even strength points than Teravainen this season.
6:43
If Trocheck and Niederreiter leave, I think you'll see Necas' numbers bump

6:45
Any chance CBJ go after a young 1D to pair with Werenski?
Gavin Lee
6:46
It's really difficult to "go after" young 1Ds
No one is giving you a young 1D
There is a lot of young talent there on the back end
Bean, Peeke, Boqvist
6:47
If you add say, Nemec to that at #6, you have a nice little group
Mike
6:48
Overall been impressed with Lafreniere and his play. What are your thoughts?
Gavin Lee
6:48
He is a very good player, he still needs to be more assertive and less reactive.
But the idea that he had just completely lost it was always a little silly
6:49
I said it before his draft though, when people seemed to expect him to be the next best player in the NHL. He's a lot more Taylor Hall than Connor McDavid--in that I mean, he has the skill to reach an incredible level at some point in his career, but I think he'll ultimately settle in as less than a franchise icon, and more of just a good strong player
6:50
And there's nothing wrong with that!
6:51
Alright guys I know that was pretty short, I have to go finish this write up about Mitchell Russell.

Going forward, I'm probably switching the chat day to Monday evening, as our schedule isn't usually allowing for the Thursday evening chats
Keep an eye out!
Talk soon.
