Gavin Lee
6:23
He is owed $12MM in real dollars next season
6:24
Knight is free for 2 more seasons
Then it gets more tricky, but by then Bobrovsky's money starts dropping
6:25
Maybe unload him then
Kevin

Saw your article on Eriksson's buyout proof contract a while ago. What is the best way for Jimbo to get rid of it? Burying it, trading it, etc.
Gavin Lee
6:25
Well trading it would be the best, but that would likely require a big asset.
6:26
Remember the Maple Leafs gave up a 1st to get rid of Marleau's last year at $6.25MM
Buying it out doesn't save you very much this season and gives you a penalty next season so that doesn't make sense
The way it will actually play out I think?
6:27
He takes his $1MM in signing bonus and then terminates the last year of the deal.
Eriksson gives up $3MM but doesn't have to sit an entire year in the minors again

The Blues need to retool their blue line once again. Can you see them finally moving Dunn to upgrade?
Gavin Lee
6:28
Yes I think Dunn is a piece that gets moved this offseason
He is arbitration eligible again and will get a raise, which doesn't make sense for the Blues
John
6:29
Capitals off-season plans? Can’t do much with the salary cap no?
Gavin Lee
6:29
Can't do much right now but--
John
6:29
What kind of return will the caps get for Kuzy?
Gavin Lee
6:29
If they move his full number they have a little wiggle room
I think if the Capitals do trade Kuznetsov, you're going to be disappointed with the return
6:30
It's not that he's not an excellent player, he is. But it's hard to pay a hefty price for a player who has been inconsistent and is already earning that big paycheck
6:31
Unless of course, the Capitals and Blue Jackets come together for the Kuzy/Jones swap that my mind keeps coming back to
It wouldn't be 1 for 1, but man does it make a lot of sense to me.
6:32
Blue Jackets get a center that is locked in for four more years, Capitals get that defenseman who can anchor a pair and help them give it another shot with the Ovi group
Spaceman
6:32
How about Mrazek getting the start tonight?   Seems this could help the cause.  Carolina keeping up with TB, need a few breaks to go their way….
Gavin Lee
6:33
Carolina is right there, but they don't have Vasilevskiy unfortunately
It's not even Nedeljkovic's fault--the rookie just isn't Vasy yet.
Blue seats
6:34
What players with some grit, do you see the rangers making a play for?
Gavin Lee
6:35
I said Cizikas for Pittsburgh, he's a fit for the Rangers too if he makes it to market. Don't think for a second that the ownership there isn't watching him closely--the losses to the Islanders this year were a big part of the dismissals.
6:36
Otherwise, players like Coleman, Saad, Bonino all make sense to me
They will try to bring experience I think
Not necessarily a face-puncher, but some bite on a player who has "been there"
Kevin
6:37
Mock draft from 1-10?
Gavin Lee
6:38
I don't have my list finished yet but in some order--Power, Clarke, Hughes, Beniers, Eklund, Johnson, Guenther, McTavish, Sillinger, Edvinsson, probably

Colorado able to get Grub, Makar, Landy, and in a few years Mack all signed? Or is someone like Grub out the door with a cheaper replacement?
Gavin Lee
6:40
They'll get Makar and Landeskog done no problem I think
MacKinnon too, though it's certainly going to be a tight squeeze
6:41
Grubauer I think is playing himself into a contract that they can't afford
Justus Annunen looked like the goaltender of the future but had a bad year
6:42
But you can still bridge to him if you believe in him
6:43
Interesting, speaking of Colorado they just signed Andreas Wingerli
