Don't quote me on this, but as far as I know, a player stays in their AHL city until their team informs them they have a full-time role in the show - they'll tell them to make living arrangements in their parent club's city. Obviously, this is less of an issue now with many affiliates close together or in the same city

Assuming fantilli makes the team what kind of impact do you see. I think he has a shot at ROTY along with bedard of course. Top 6 forward?
Josh Erickson
4:34
There's a lot of opportunity for him, certainly. I do think he's in a top-six role to start the year, although I don't think he takes Jenner's 20 minutes a night. I think a "kid" line of he, Johnson, and possibly Marchenko or Chinakhov is a good bet.

Do you think the Blues make other moves this off-season? Also do you think they still could have acquired Samhain if they asked another d-man to waive there ntc/nmc?
Josh Erickson
4:35
They have so little financial flexibility, I don't think they have anything left up their sleeve other than dumping a defenseman. I can't speak to the second question - it would've depended on who Philadelphia was interested in. They liked Krug.

I am not a fan of the Capitals trading for Alex DeBrincat (too expensive, too small). Who else could they trade for?
Josh Erickson
4:37
If you're looking for inexpensive targets, I think Conor Garland can still be had out of Vancouver. $4.95MM cap hit for three more years, and I think he's gotten an unfair rap. Very effective player, even if the production trailed off a little for him last year.
4:38
Not sure he's addressing your size issue at 5'10"/165 however, haha.

Curious on Logan Cooley. As he is in college could he technically play out his college years and be a free agent, or does the team hold his rights and for how long?
Josh Erickson
4:39
Arizona loses his rights if he doesn't sign by August 15th of the summer after his collegiate career ends. He's made it pretty clear in the past few days he intends to sign with the Coyotes, I'm not sure why he would attend their development camp (on his own dime, no less, since he's still in college) if there wasn't an intent to ever play for them.
He wants to win a national championship, and he did admit the arena uncertainty played a small part in his decision to return, but it's not the driving factor.

What do u think of the bruins free agency seems like we got older & slower?
Josh Erickson
4:41
I'm not sure what else could be expected of them given their cap situation. I think Sweeney managed it well. Geekie is a decent add at 3C - I don't think they could've spent more. Shattenkirk was their best signing, he'll provide way more value than his $1.05MM cap hit suggests. Very strong D and G, although they'll have issues scoring, I think they've done enough to keep themselves in the playoff race.
Managing their cap to the point where trading Ullmark isn't a necessity is a gigantic win, in my opinion.
4:42
On Boston - I do wonder about Zadina there. With their thinned out center depth, it's probably wise to go with Marchand and Pastrnak on different lines, and JVR really isn't a top-six threat anymore. Zadina-Zacha-Pastrnak, Marchand-Coyle-DeBrusk?

Do the Canes still go after Deangelo?
Josh Erickson
4:43
As far as I know, the trade hasn't changed and is still in place from when originally reported - it just can't legally go through until Saturday, which is one year after the trade sending him to Philly went through. So yes.
We'll see what the return is. I can't imagine it's very much.

What's going on with the Red Wings?  Has Stevie Y lost the touch he had in Tampa?  Seems like they're stockpiling a bunch of 3rd line guys.
Josh Erickson
4:45
Passing on Benson for Danielson at ninth overall was pretty egregious. I liked Sandin Pellikka at 17, though. In terms of free agency, I'm not sure they're any better off than they were last year at this time. The Copp signing hasn't panned out particularly well so far, and I fear the same thing for Compher. Sprong was a very intriguing add, I wonder what he could do if they put him higher up in the lineup.
I just don't see how they've advanced at all from July 2022 to July 2023, and that's the most concerning part for me. This looks like the same roster with different players - and a downgrade from Hronek to Holl
Tommy Hawk
4:46
Do the Hawks have the best farm system in hockey?  If not, top 5?
Josh Erickson
4:48
Top 5, yeah! I'd give the edge to Columbus for the best prospect pool at this point in time, just because of their depth. They've had a bit of a headstart on building it, and Jiricek and Mateychuk push them over the edge
On D. Chicago still has a lot of work to do building there
4:49
Definitely the lower end of the top 5 pool, though. Montreal has quite a lot of depth at this point, and Philly looks awfully appetizing now with Michkov and a slate of really underrated goalie prospects. Chicago has the star power to compete coming -- now they need to build out the bottom of their pool.

Now that the cap hell begins for Minny, will Rossi be an answer? Gotta give him top 6 top PP? Like Lafreniere waste of potential
Josh Erickson
4:51
They absolutely have to give him a top six shot. His AHL production warrants it - 51 points in 53 games with Iowa after 53 points in 63 games last year.
4:52
Great numbers after missing an entire year because of COVID and serious side effects

Assuming the Penguins were to trade for Karlson, it seems to be trying to find a way out of Carter/Granlund's contracts is a must -- though I am not sure there are many teams willing to accept either of their contracts.  I guess O'Connor could be bought out in the 2nd window to free up more cap space -- but this also hinges on how much San Jose wishes to eat of Karlson's contract, which I am assuming Dubas will want them to eat like 30%
Josh Erickson
4:54
O'Connor is unsigned, so not really an option there. Dubas has already been pretty clear he doesn't like using buyouts, so I don't think anyone else is, either. Granlund with two more years left is tough. He has negative value on the trade market, so the question is how much are you willing to give up in getting rid of him in *addition* to what it will take to acquire EK65?

The Canes didn't sign Orlov to play 3rd pairing minutes behind Burns/Slavin and Pesce/Skjei.  So what kind of piece can we get with Skjei or Skjei/Pesce package? That cap business needs to be settled.
Josh Erickson
4:55
Yeah, Orlov is signed to play top pair minutes with Burns. They wouldn't have given him that money if that wasn't their idea.
4:56
Pesce will definitely be traded, although I'm not sure about Skjei. I wonder about rolling Orlov-Burns/Slavin-DeAngelo/Skjei-Chatfield and calling it a day.

Do you think the Kraken have any more moves in store besides re-signing their RFAs?
Josh Erickson
4:57
With arbitration coming for all their RFA defenders, I think they're likely done – which I don't think is a bad thing. Don't want to sell the farm too early, and there aren't many cost-effective UFAs left (and they already have quite a full forward roster with Wright coming too)
Time for one more!

What contacts do you see Terry and Zegras signing?
Josh Erickson
4:58
Anaheim has to be careful now, they only have a measly $30MM of cap space left.
