If the Kraken selected him, they can either sign him or trade his rights, but he has no obligation to sign with anyone before free agency begins

So they could pick him and he could still sign back with Colorado a week later (which means they won't pick him)

If he's unsigned, Seattle is also allowed to speak with him 48 hours before their picks are submitted. If they work out a contract (which can be up to 8 years), he would go in as their pick from Colorado

I agree that I'd like to see them fight for that 8th spot just so that it's interesting to watch over the 82 and the kids get some playoff experience. Nick Foligno isn't one I'd thought about - I'd quite like Palmieri back as a shooter but really feel that we are lacking snipers after Bratt (Sharangovich looks promising though!). I'm quietly confident that once we get some finishers, Nico and Jack can put up a ton of points - I hope it happens soon so that they don't have their confidence ruined playing beside part timers.

Don't get me wrong, getting players who can put the puck in the net is big. But don't get too wrapped up in "this guy is a playmaker, this guy is a goal scorer"

The best centers make finishers out of anyone

And Hughes can do that

They need guys who can a) get the puck back in the neutral zone and b) not have the play die on their stick if it's not a scoring opportunity

You watch Mike Hoffman play, and he's a dangerous weapon, but then if he gets it in the neutral zone nothing good really happens. That's not what Hughes needs, at least not on his 5v5 line

He can finish. And he can fly. But he doesn't do a lot else

I think he'll be better, and it'll go a long way to helping. Thought Tanev was great for them, probably their most consistent defenseman

Yes. Giroux and Couturier are both UFA after this season. there will be a chance for Fletcher to blow it up partway through this year if things don't look any better

They can't give those guys big extensions and run it back, if it doesn't work now

A little, to be honest. But it was another good move I think. His time in Florida was over, they weren't going to get anything for him before the expansion draft, and they really love Forsling
