6:00
Hello and welcome to another chat!
We've hit the dog days now, but hopefully there are still some questions out there.
6:01
I'll get started in a few minutes

6:06
Where do the Coyotes play in 22-23?
Gavin Lee
6:06
So I figured this would be the first question.
I don't think it's necessarily time to jump to conclusions about relocation just yet
6:07
There is the Tempe interest, there is the Footprint Center (where the Suns play)
There is also the chance that this is simply a negotiating tactic by Glendale to try and get a better deal until a new arena is built
6:08
The thing everyone should remember is that Glendale wasn't a long-term spot for the Coyotes anyway
The league didn't want to stay there
I don't believe anyone was expecting things to go this quickly though, so that puts a lot of pressure points on the negotiations for a new rink
6:09
If I were to bet, they'll be in Arizona still in 2022-23, but I'm not exactly sure where
Matt
6:09
Do you think more canadian teams would be good for the league?
Gavin Lee
6:09
I don't think more expansion would be healthy at this point, so that means you're left with relocating teams to Canada
6:10
That wouldn't be good for the league in any sort of forward-looking way, though it might boost revenues in the short-term

Robert Thomas is a RFA and still unsigned.  The Blues have $1.5 million in cap space.  Can they sign him without trading Tarasenko?
Gavin Lee
6:11
Remember that Thomas doesn't have arbitration rights, so if he wants to play this season, the Blues have all the leverage
6:12
That $1.5MM cap figure is also with a 22-man roster, so remember they could open up more by waiving the last few players
There's enough flexibility there to sign him short-term without trading Tarasenko
But...

Not much news on the Tarasenko front recently, outside of Carolina possibly having some level of interest. How do you expect the situation to play out? Could the team and player have a sit-down and possibly move forward together, or has that ship sailed?
Gavin Lee
6:13
I still think there will be a trade at some point, but I'm wondering if it'll have to wait for the pressure point of training camp or even the start of the year

Gavin, Say it isn’t so, say they did not approve ads for jerseys!
Gavin Lee
6:13
They did
6:14
3 inch by 3.5 inch
But don't worry "they won't go further than that" wink

6:15
Are the Hurricanes a better team after all the turnover?
Gavin Lee
6:15
Hmm, I don't think so, to be honest.
They're not appreciably worse, but I am not a big believer in the Andersen-Raanta tandem
6:17
Losing Hamilton is a big blow obviously, though they did add some nice pieces to the defensive group--though I certainly wouldn't have done the Deangelo thing.
I like Ian Cole a lot as a depth defenseman

Is Eichel still on the move? Maybe closer to the start of the season now instead?
Gavin Lee
6:18
He's going to be traded at some point, but I honestly have no idea when that will be anymore.
If the first day of training camp came, and they announced that Eichel wouldn't be there but he's also not traded yet, I wouldn't be surprised.
If he got moved tomorrow, I also wouldn't be surprised.
6:19
No feel on when that will resolve.

Thoughts on Thrill the Kirill?  With the Wild salary cap crunch in a couple of years - do you see a long term deal?
Gavin Lee
6:19
It sounds like Minnesota has moved off the eight-year term recently, so I wonder if something like a four or five-year deal will be the endgame.
6:20
One thing to remember again with those cap penalties
They aren't bigger than what the team was already dealing with
