Yeah he has good puck skills, but they're not so out-of-this-world that you can overlook all the other stuff.
5:35
He could certainly get a deal, but I don't think he has a roster spot with the Maple Leafs.

Is there usually a lot of trade activity this time of year as teams try to get something for their best waiver candidates, or need to unload some salary to make the cap?  When does that take off--soon or right before the season starts?
Gavin Lee
5:35
There will be a handful of trades, yes
5:36
But not big moves
One thing to remember is that sometimes a player is more valuable after he clears waivers than before it
So some of these guys who are put on waivers the final day of camp may actually clear and then get traded quickly
5:37
I'm looking at Seattle in particular there, since they quite literally don't have enough minor league spots for everyone

Do the Stars move Klingberg if they fall out of contention? What could we get for him?
Gavin Lee
5:38
Boy, I never really thought I'd hear Stars fans wondering about a Klingberg return
5:39
Yes, they'd be silly not to listen to offers for him if they fall out of it early. The important thing to remember when it comes to Klingberg is that he doesn't have any trade protection
So they would likely get a huge haul, since every contender in the league could afford/target him.
5:40
Still, tough to think about them trading a guy who has been so good for them for so long.
The same could be said for Ekholm in Nashville, really, though an extension sounds more likely in that case

Who is - in your esteemed opinion - is the closest person to compare to Ovi that is in the early stages of thier respective career? I don't know of anyone off hand that would really come close and I don't know of anyone in the minors that really would compare. Since this is likely his last contract, I can't help but admire his work/abilities and wonder if anyone could take up his mantle.
Gavin Lee
5:41
There's no one like Ovechkin. Matthews is closest in terms of goal scoring obviously, but they are completely different players
There's no one in the minors or junior like him either, not that I know of at least.
Michkov, the next Russian superstar, is way more like Kucherov than he is Ovechkin.

Remember when some people compared to Partrik Laine to Ovi after 1 season?  How'd that turn out?
Gavin Lee
5:43
That at least had some stylistic similarities. Laine does have that devastating shot from the left circle.
But Washington fans will remember how different they really are, when thinking back on Ovechkin's early years.
5:44
He was an absolute freight train, buzzing all over the ice and causing chaos in his wake
Laine has never been that, and never will

With all the big deals for defensemen this past offseason, which big name deal do you think their team will most regret and which deal will be the best value? Thinking of guys like Nurse, Jones, Werenski, etc.
Gavin Lee
5:45
Best value is easy, it'll be Makar.
Biggest regret I think will be Nurse, and only because of the opportunity cost really. Not that he'll necessarily be worse than the others.
I just don't think it was a wise decision to put $9.25M in a defenseman, when you have McDavid and Draisaitl.

What would it take to pry chychrun from the coyotes?
Gavin Lee
5:47
Too much to make it worth it, right now at least
Arizona is putting the whole franchise behind Chychrun, he's their guy
Now, a couple more years closer to that pending free agency? You might want to call again.

Is Isles offensive going to be better or worse than last season?
Gavin Lee
5:49
Better, if only because Lee is back
Don't think they're going to be high-flying by any means, but probably more consistent

Over/under on 81.5 points?
Gavin Lee
5:50
I'll take the over, I think

Who are the 5 best prospects for the 2022 amateur draft?
Gavin Lee
5:50
Shane Wright is number 1 by a long shot
5:51
I mentioned a few weeks ago that the two Russians would probably get a lot more love as the draft came closer.
Today Miroshnichenko was listed 2nd by TSN.
