It's a tough one because teams know they'll also be getting a tough negotiation.
He's an RFA this summer and was a fight last time around. He might just go the arbitration route and try to get to UFA as soon as possible.

I think that might be the exact kind of move the Bruins are looking at--I never thought they'd really get involved in the Hall stuff. Whether they target Athanasiou or not I have no idea.

I read earlier today on a Montreal Gazette article that there is just something slightly off withe the chemistry of the team. What is your take on the lack of the Habs consistency?

that's basically impossible to really judge from the outside.
In terms of their play though, I think this is about where the team should have been projected to be. I never saw them as a dominant group, but they could certainly battle for a playoff spot.
