Hello and welcome to a special trade deadline edition of our live chats!
Like the last few years, a lot of the big names have already moved, but there's still lots to talk about
We'll get started in a few minutes

Does MAF get moved today?
Gavin Lee
9:12
I am not actually sold that he will, but there will certainly be a push for it.
9:13
How about him playing without a glove on. Probably scared a few Blackhawks fans hoping to get a big return

Do Blues make a move? Bring in another defenseman or stay pat?
Gavin Lee
9:13
I'm convinced that they will add a defenseman today

Do you see the Lightning trading that 2022 first they kept after the Hagel trade to go all in on a three peat? If so what area could they target for improvement?
Gavin Lee
9:14
I don't think there is another player out there that would warrant it really, unless they go big on a defenseman with term
9:15
Just don't see how the top forwards would really fit into their group
After the Hagel and Paul additions

Hey Gavin, did the Avs trade Jost to clear cap space for Giroux? I don’t really understand that trade otherwise did they want Sturm for face offs? What else do you see them doing today? Is Byram going to be back this year?
Gavin Lee
9:16
Not necessarily for Giroux, though that's what I thought about when it happened too.
I just think they wanted more flexibility at the deadline, whether they got Giroux or not
It's not like Jost was a dominant player--Sturm is probably a bit better right now, and comes cheaper

There was a little bit of chatter about the Leafs making a big move involving William Nylander. I have a hard time figuring out, given who is available, how we would get value back in any deal involving Nylander.
Gavin Lee
9:17
If there's a deal out there for Nylander, it certainly won't be for one of the names normally mentioned
(though to the delight of hot stovers everywhere, John Gibson's name is trending again)
9:18
I don't think Nylander will be traded today

What time is the trade deadline?

any juicy Red Wings Rumors.  Been really quiet.  I thought there would be a little more action over the weekend.
Gavin Lee
9:19
I think you will get some movement today
Maybe not the big deals you are hoping for, but Leddy, Nametnikov, even Staal could certainly be on the move
9:20
The thing about Detroit is that they don't really need more draft picks now
The number of unsigned picks they already have in the system is out of control, adding more doesn't help them all that much
9:21
So a pure sell-off isn't all that necessary
Tom Emanski
9:21
Do you think the Hawks did well in the Hagel trade?  And what's Raddyish's ceiling: real second line potential, or more good bottom 6?
Gavin Lee
9:21
Good bottom-six, I think
9:22
I don't think he'll be a second liner on a contending team
How did they do? They did pretty well, to be honest.
Hagel is probably right around peak value right now, given his contract
Not to say he won't improve his numbers in Tampa bay, he might, but if the further he goes through the cheap deal, the lower his value goes
9:23
I must say though, Tampa is one of the only teams that really plays the "draft picks aren't that different" game especially well
9:24
The 4th rounders that they got aren't actually that different than the late 1sts they are sending. At least not as much of a difference as the industry seems to place on it
9:25
After like pick 15ish every year, the value of a pick drops so quickly that anything in the 25-30 area shouldn't even be considered the same round
Kraken
9:25
Just stock piling draft picks? Or looking to trade for someone in off season?
Gavin Lee
9:25
They are going the draft pick route, finally
9:26
Don't be surprised if they pick some overagers this year either
