Can Pirri demand a trade? He got sent to the minors again today...and is scoring over a point per game in the NHL...that's got to be frustrating
Gavin Lee
6:33
He was recalled just a few minutes ago as well.
Anyone can demand a trade, but they've probably discussed this with Pirri
6:34
He's in a unique situation because of his waiver status--I believe Tuch is the only other forward who can go down without clearing.
It'll end soon, when Pirri plays his 10th game.
Remember that last season the Golden Knights kept players in the minors to start the year because they didn't want to lose guys on waivers.
6:35
Theodore played down there for nearly a month because of guys like Jason Garrison on the NHL roster
George McPhee doesn't like losing assets for free

6:35
Kevin Hayes finishes the season with whom, and what is the likely package in return?  Thanks.
Gavin Lee
6:37
I've always pointed to Boston given the obvious connection and fit, but I wonder if some of the other contenders get involved there. I think it was an executive in Custance's piece that said the Rangers were a "one-stop deadline shop"
They have everything you need.
I think the Hayes return is very much going to depend on Duchene's availability.
6:38
If he's on the market, someone is going to overpay for Hayes in an arms race
Ron Duguay
6:38
So should the Rangers trade Hayes sooner than later?
Gavin Lee
6:38
I think no, actually. They should wait as long as possible.

Are the Flyers fixable by a few adjustments or is it time to jettison anyone over the age of 25?  Could they get good prospects for G and Jake if they'd move to a contender or would it just be a glorified salary dump?
Gavin Lee
6:39
It's not exactly a salary dump, since both are still good players.
But they would be hard deals to make.
6:40
I'd point to something like the Phil Kessel trade from Toronto to Pittsburgh. Toronto really only moved up a round in the draft and got Kasperi Kapanen for a retained salary Kessel.
Is that enough to move those guys? Maybe.
But the Flyers have a boatload of prospects already coming
It's not like they're desperate to fill the cupboards.

When does Stevie Y get announced as the top guy in Detroit? And, does Holland stick around in a lesser role? He's almost at 65 now...
Gavin Lee
6:42
Lou Lamoriello is 76.
6:43
If I'm not mistaken though, Holland signed a two-year extension in 2017-18
So after next year, perhaps they reconsider things
Mike
6:44
Maybe after next year Holland is running things in Seattle,?
Gavin Lee
6:44
This has been the speculation, but I don't think there is any real substance to it just yet.
He's just a good fit, as a long time executive
Brian
6:45
Hi Gavin, what is up in Colorado? Is it going to get better?
Gavin Lee
6:45
Always remember that they were historically bad in 2016-17.
It's already better.
This is just a bump in the road.
6:46
It's also incredible to me how little Cale Makar gets talked about now that he's not World Junior eligible.
Everyone remembers how incredible he is right?

You mentioned that the Flyers have a boatload of prospects coming but no one seems to taking advantage of their chances except Carter Hart.  So who are these prospects?
Gavin Lee
6:48
Joel Farabee, Morgan Frost, Jay O'Brien, Adam Ginning, Isaac Ratcliffe, Maksim Sushko, German Rubtsov....
I'm probably even missing some.
The Flyers have arguably the best prospect list in the entire league.

Do you think hockey needs a FA comp system like in baseball?  If not just to put an end to the term own rental...  What could possibly work?
