Welcome to another chat!
And happy opening day for all the MLB fans!
I hope everyone saw that Lorenzo Cain catch.
I'll get things started in a few minutes.

Do you think Montreal has it in them to make it to playoffs
Gavin Lee
6:12
It's an absolute must win tonight.
But yes, I do think they can do it.
Limping into the final wild card spot is certainly not where I'd want to be though.

Are the Sharks dead in the water or do they get healthy/turn it around before the playoffs?
Gavin Lee
6:13
Luckily the Golden Knights aren't on fire heading into the playoffs either.
6:14
The Sharks are still a really good team, but they certainly don't look dominant right now.
They keep saying that Erik Karlsson will be back, but trimming down his skating schedule isn't great.
Need the goaltending to step up in the first round.

Will the Sens sign any top FA’s to reach the floor? Or just sign a bunch of secondary FA’s and overpay them
Gavin Lee
6:15
Neither of those things, I don't believe.
The Senators won't have that much trouble reaching the floor.
They have around $45MM committed already with just 14 roster players. Ceci will cost ~$5MM if he's retained.
6:16
That means the other 8 spots just need to make up ~$12MM. Duclair gets a raise, bring back Gibbons maybe.
Remember that the minimum is $700K next season.

as much as the players like Patrick Marleau can the Leafs rid themselves of him next year for cap space
Gavin Lee
6:17
One trade like this and the Sens will hit it no problem.
(Not that I think that's what's going to happen here)
I'm sure the Maple Leafs could move Marleau if they (and he) wanted to, but I'm not convinced.

In this draft class who are plug and play players onto NHL rosters besides Hughes and Kakko?? Asking for a friend
Gavin Lee
6:20
There aren't a ton. Cozens could surprise but I think he still needs some polishing. Hard to step right in as a D like Byram. Teams rarely give opportunities right away to smaller players like Kaliyev and Caulfield (though the latter just oozes offense and probably could play on a powerplay right now)
6:21
Maybe Raphael Lavoie to be honest.
But I would still doubt that it happens.

6:21
Gavin, this may be a dumb question but if a teams captain is hurt can the team name another captain for that game? Or have 3 alternate captains?
Gavin Lee
6:21
Not a dumb question.
6:22
Yes they can name a different captain, or have three players wear the A.
6:23
I'm trying to think of an example but can't off the top of my head.
But there has been some who give the C to someone else while their regular captain deals with a major injury
Mike
6:24
What are Montreals biggest needs this offseason besides getting rid of there gm who loves his 4th liners
Gavin Lee
6:24
You can't think that Bergevin is in trouble after this season. They've certainly overperformed
6:25
The Max Domi trade looks like a good one, stealing Joel Armia with cap space was great. Tomas Tatar has shown he was a worthwhile part of that deal.
Mike
6:25
What do you think Montreal is going to do in the off season
Gavin Lee
6:26
I think they'll go after Duchene if he hits the market, otherwise look at some of the other center options.
Defense will also be addressed, at least with a small upgrade
Mike
6:28
Again ever since he arrived in Montreal he has yet to do anything really besides 4th liners and the max domi trade
Gavin Lee
6:29
Not to get too bogged down in Montreal, I don't think you can call Drouin, Domi, Tatar, Shaw and Danault fourth liners
