Why are the ducks playing so well now?  What the heck?  What happened to #loseforhughes?  Do you like their outlook for next year given how the young guys have stepped up?  And doing this without Kase, Guhle, etc.. thanks!

I know this sounds crazy, but maybe Randy Carlyle isn't a very good coach in today's NHL.

I don't love their outlook, but I didn't think they were a bottom feeder coming into this year.
The young guys are playing well, but they'll have to show it when it actually matters.

They don't have to bring a ton of people in, but they'll have to make some tough decisions on how the minutes/starts are going to be broken down.

But Boudreau will have just a year left on his deal, so his seat will certainly be hot.
Remember he wasn't hired by Fenton either.

The West is going to be a meat grinder. I can see any of the favorites falling in the first round.
The bottom half of the bracket are all teams that can get hot and look like world beaters
In the East you have to bet on Tampa to go far obviously

How bad do the leafs need to parlay their forward depth for a top 4 d man.  Kapanen for Pesce straight up sounds good.   Or maybe nylander for pesce +.

The thing is they don't badly need to do it at all. The Maple Leafs are going to be a 100+ point team and the strength of their prospect system is on D.
They're limping into the playoffs right now, but they could just as easily have looked dominant if Jake Gardiner and Travis Dermott didn't get hurt.

Sure they would obviously like to swing some of that talent from front to back, but I don't think anyone in Toronto is desperate.

People would certainly want Drouin.

I said it at the time that I didn't love that contract, if only because the Canadiens were basically giving up the opportunity at any real excess value (sort of like the Maple Leafs have done with Nylander).
I'm still not convinced that the big money long-term deals for young players is the way to run an organization, but I don't get paid to make those decisions.

What will Charlie McAvoy's next contract  look like, a bridged deal or in range of 7 mil a season?

I think if he's smart, he'll follow Auston Matthews and get a mid-range deal. Maximize salary while only signing for 4-5 years.

With a healthy Schmaltz, Stepan, Dvorak and Richardson there may not be much room for Hayton up the middle. Healthy being the key word.
