6:00
Hey folks! Welcome to another live chat.
The season is almost over, and boy are these playoffs going to be fun.
6:01
I'll let some stuff roll in and get started in a few minutes.
Mike
6:09
Do you think Montreal is gonna make it
Let's go habs right lol
Gavin Lee
6:10
It's going to be tough, and I've said for about a month now I bet it comes down to the CBJ-OTT game on the last day of the season.
If Duchene loses to Ottawa to miss the playoffs, it's just going to be such a headline.
6:11
It's just hard for the Canadiens because they're trailing in the ROW. They have to actually pass Columbus (or Carolina)
(or Pittsburgh, technically)

Your prediction on who will be the first upset in the opening round?
Gavin Lee
6:12
I mean the easy answer to this right now is San Jose isn't it?
They can't seem to do anything right.
6:13
But honestly any of the Metro teams can beat any of the other Metro teams. That's going to just be a toss up no matter who plays who

Which of these NCAA signings is most intriguing to you?
Gavin Lee
6:14
Of the free agents, it has to be Schuldt for most intriguing.
Sturm is pretty much a lock as a bottom-six forward.
I can't see him actually doing any better than that.
6:15
In terms of the drafted guys, Hughes is already so fun to watch, and Makar is an elite player already.

Canucks’ offseason to do list?
Gavin Lee
6:17
It's not like they need to do anything drastic, but obviously getting Boeser's deal done is a big one.
They need to figure out how their defense shakes out for next season, nd whether it's going to be all youngsters.
6:18
Also there is a decision to be made on Markstrom. If you think Demko is the real deal, maybe now is the time to move Markstrom and get something of value.
Otherwise you're going to need to pay him as a starter after next year. An in-season trade won't get you nearly as much.

Arizona failed to add any firepower to their line-up and it appears to have caused them to miss the playoffs. Are they broke or just cheap?
Gavin Lee
6:19
They're not exactly "broke" but they definitely operate on a way smaller budget than everyone else. They can't go out and get the huge names, especially when they've been locking up their young guys so early to relatively expensive deals.
6:20
It was a crazy story that they were even in the playoff hunt this year given their injuries.
It may have saved some jobs in the front office though.

Did the devils have the most man hours lost to injury this year
Gavin Lee
6:20
I like that you used man hours instead of games.
I imagine the Coyotes have them beat still, just because of the length of injuries.
But the Devils have missed half (or more) of their lineup for stretches.
6:21
I'm sure there is a site that tracks that, but I don't know it off hand

Do you expect any big moves for Tampa in the offseason?
Gavin Lee
6:21
They're going to need to clear off one of the bigger contracts.
6:22
With Point's deal coming up, and others to think of the year after that (Sergachev, Cirelli) I think they need to get out from under Killorn's contract--but it might not have to be right away if they move Callahan.

Elephant in the room,  what happens to Fox?  Why would he not want to play in Carolina?  They seem to be an up and coming team.
Gavin Lee
6:24
To be clear I have no inside information on this, but I'm wondering if he doesn't look at their defense and think "Where do I fit in?"
Fox wants to play, and wants to play a lot.
6:25
He's looking and seeing Haydn Fleury and Jake Bean unable to crack the lineup, and probably thinking--well how do I pass everyone?
If you had the chance to complete a Harvard degree and then pick your destination, wouldn't you do it?
