Gavin Lee
6:04
Welcome to another live chat! Lots to talk about I'm sure, as trade season heats up and the draft inches closer.
Also I think there is a game or something
6:05
We'll get started in just a few minutes
Micah
6:13
Thoughts on preds moves? P.K.? Turris? Duchene?
Gavin Lee
6:14
They are 100% going to be in on Duchene, but whether they can actually fit him in will be the question. That interview period will be huge for them, because they'll find out how much he's looking for and be able to know if they can clear enough space.
Remember that they need to re-sign Josi before long as well.
Now in terms of moving PK or Turris, I'd certainly be looking at the latter first.
6:15
He just hasn't fit there for whatever reason, and even though the team has Fabbro coming, I don't think you'd ever really get back even value in a PK trade at this point.

Why are flyers never mentioned in on panarin? Hes a perfect fit. Or would he 100 not want philly?
Gavin Lee
6:16
I think there is a lot of speculation around Panarin, just from places he's enjoyed in the past. If he's never mentioned Philly, it's hard for others to put it out there.
Same goes for plenty of teams that he would be a great fit in.
6:17
I don't think anyone knows his list at this point.

6:17
Am I looking to extend or resign in New Jersey or am I gone as soon as I am free?  Would drafting Hughes to go with Hischier down the middle sway me to stay or would NJ need to make a big FA splash also like Panarin?
Gavin Lee
6:17
So, from the way Hall and Shero have spoken about this, I can only infer that they had a short conversation saying "this is a super busy month for us, with the draft and free agency. Let's talk on July 15th" or something like that.
6:18
I don't think there is any indication that he is against re-signing in New Jersey--yet.
He knows they're going to get a great player from this draft. He knows they have plenty of cap space to spend when they feel the time is right.
6:19
All of that will be laid out for him whenever they do sit down for extension talks.
Derek

Does James Neal make sense for any team looking for a rebound season or is Calgary basically stuck with him?  What could the Flames get in return?
Gavin Lee
6:19
The Flames would probably have to either take a bad contract back, or include an asset to get rid of him right now.
Neither of which makes much sense to me right now.
6:20
I think they have to hope for a bounce back, unless there is an attitude/locker room problem there (which has been suggested about Neal in the past).

Glad your back.  The Hurricanes have lots to do.  Goalies,l lots of D down on the farm need contracts or traded, anyway, why the delay?
Gavin Lee
6:21
I think the playoff success changed the plan, or at least made everyone sit back and re-evaluate
6:22
There shouldn't be any rush to trade away one of their D, they have to find the right deal. And even though they said they want Mrazek/McElhinney back, you have to wonder if they're considering going after a bigger fish.
6:23
Also with that, the Aho deal is probably looming over all the moves they have to make, and he very well could be waiting for Mitch Marner or Brayden Point.

Am i the only one that thinks vegas still somehow tries to get in on EK?
Gavin Lee
6:23
You shouldn't be. They will still be in on it, even with the lack of cap space.
Derek
6:24
Is Jordan Binnington the most valuable player to his team this season?  I could be wrong but weren't the Blues in last place or close to it when he took over in net?  And now they're tied 2-2 in the Stanley Cup Finals ... Speaks for itself doesn't it?  As good as OReilly is without Binnington I doubt the Blues even make the playoffs
Gavin Lee
6:24
It wasn't exactly when he took over, but yes Binnington was superb down the stretch to get them in.
6:25
I'm not one to argue over what "most valuable" really means though. The trophy usually goes to a high-scoring forward or the goalie who leads in all the categories.
He's not going to get it.

6:26
Have you ever looked at Evolving Wild’s contract projection model? Any thoughts if so?
Gavin Lee
6:26
I have looked at it, but not close enough to really say one way or the other.
Derek
6:27
Would the Knights be a fit for Kessel?  What could they send Pittsburgh?
Gavin Lee
6:27
This one I don't see happening. Don't really see a fit up front for him, given the cap number.
6:28
And Pittsburgh isn't looking to just dump him, they want value back. That would mean Alex Tuch or something, and I just don't see it.
Connor
6:28
See chara playing today for my boys🐻?
Chris
6:28
Chara can't possibly go tonight, can he?
Gavin Lee
6:28
I think he is.
But we'll have to wait and see.
