Hello and welcome to another live chat!
THE DRAFT IS TOMORROW
Let's talk hockey.

Hey Gavin! Any bold predictions for the ducks tomorrow? Who do you think they target at 9, and what position at 29? Thanks!
Gavin Lee
6:36
I'm still not completely off the Cam York-to-Anaheim train at #9, as he's a legit talent and would be a marketing dream, but it will be very hard for them to pass on whichever top forward--Krebs, Caufield, Podkolzin--is still there.
As for the end of the round, who knows. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with at least one D out of the two picks though.

Subban to the Devils? Subban anywhere? What do you think the requisite return would be?
Gavin Lee
6:38
I think if they were to move him, Poile would be targeting another extremely talented, but somewhat younger and cheaper player--not necessarily a package.
He's a straight up kind of trader.
As for the Devils? The two teams don't seem like a great fit to me.

Hypothetical trade: Puljujarvi for Colin Miller. Thoughts?
Gavin Lee
6:39
I sort of think this would be a mistake for both teams.
Remember Puljujarvi has to play in the NHL this year, he's not making it through waivers.
6:40
Miller's not a big enough upgrade for the Oilers either.

Which d-man do you think the Leafs get and what price do they pay?  I think Kapanen plus Brown plus a mid round pick should be enough for Brett Pesce.
Gavin Lee
6:42
LeBrun tweeted that the two sides had spoken about almost that exact deal, but the Hurricanes are loathe to give up Pesce at the moment.
And I don't blame them, he's a solid defenseman and cost controlled
Everyone has pointed to those teams matching up for months (if not years) and nothing has happened.
Not sure if it ever will.
6:43
I'm not convinced that the Maple Leafs will even move on someone until they either send Marleau/Zaitsev packing or get the Marner deal done. They need to figure out what's happening on both those fronts before actually starting to make their other transactions

Do you see islanders being able to trade for Ehlers?  Is Panarin a possibility?    Not optimistic that Lee will return.
Gavin Lee
6:44
I don't think you should rule out Lee returning just yet.
Just because it's quiet, doesn't mean it's over. This is a Lou Lamoriello front office of course.
Ehlers is definitely on the market, and he actually might be a good fit in New York. Not sure what the Jets are after though.
6:45
In terms of Panarin, we'll just have to see if he has his mind made up yet.
Florida is going to try and blow the doors off of his camp in a few days, but Lamoriello has never been one to shy away from those big negotiations

Hi Gavin. What do you think the avalanche do at 4?
Gavin Lee
6:46
Take the best player available.
If Chicago doesn't take Byram, I don't think Colorado can pass.
If Chicago does take Byram, I'm not sold that Turcotte will be the Avalanche pick--but he's certainly in the running.

6:47
Gavin, what do you think the Rangers would be looking for in return for Kreider if he’s traded?
Gavin Lee
6:47
Brooks suggested getting more draft picks, but I'm not sure if that's the focus anymore for Gorton and company.
They've turned the corner and are building up the NHL team now.
6:48
I would expect them to try and get a young piece that can go on the roster right now.

6:48
Instead of VGK clearing space by decimating the Statsny line, why not move Smith, Miller, and McNabb?
Gavin Lee
6:49
Mmhmm, the thing about Stastny/Pacioretty is not an actual report--just Chris Johnston's feeling about the situation.
I was surprised by it, to be honest.
6:50
For one thing, who wants to trade for Pacioretty this summer? You have to pay him more than $10MM this season
6:51
Johnston is a good reporter so maybe he has some insight there, but it seems unlikely to me.

Do the Devils use their abundance of 2nd and 3rd round picks to trade for an established NHL player?
