6:30
Welcome welcome folks, to the return of our regular Thursday evening live chat.
6:31
We're a few weeks away from the real dog days of summer for the NHL offseason, but at least Erik Karlsson is still providing us with some excitement.
We'll collect some questions and I'll be right back to start answering!
6:34
TVR just re-signed with the Hurricanes..which makes them even more interesting to watch going forward.

What other moves do you expect the Leafs to do? Anything dramatic?
Gavin Lee
6:35
Dramatic? Maybe not, but I would be shocked if they don't make another addition to their defense and likely add another winger of some sort.
The fact that they were involved in de Haan talks shows that they're willing to go after some upgrades

6:37
Should I pull the trigger and Heiskanen to the trade?
Junebug
6:37
What would the hypothetical deal of Karlson to Dallas look like ? Would Honka and Heiskanen be involved?
Gavin Lee
6:37
All reports make it sound like Heiskanen is the sticking point for any Karlsson deal.
But, it also comes down to whether he'll sign an extension in Dallas, which isn't clear.
6:38
There is so much to factor into the decision on Heiskanen, including the rest of the package and whether you think you'll get Seguin signed long-term.
I'll say this though, I believe Heiskanen is a top pairing defenseman in the NHL within three years.
6:39
It's really, really hard to give those up. Karlsson might be one of a handful of players that it's worth it for.

Hi Gavin.  Do you see islanders making any big moves to compensate for loss of Tavares?  Karlsson is not realistic but Duchene be possibility?
Gavin Lee
6:40
I don't believe Dorion will move on from Duchene just yet. He worked really hard for a long time to bring him there, and won't want to give up just yet.
If he hits the market during the season though, you can be sure Lamoriello will check in.
6:41
Otherwise, I am not sure you can really compensate for the loss of Tavares with a big move right now, and I'm not sure they should.
The Islanders just had a draft for the ages, and have an absolute stud to build around in Barzal.
If they want to turn things around, it really wouldn't take that long to build around him.
6:42
The Komarov deal was...confusing..but Lamoriello loves to build a locker room when his team may struggle.
From all accounts, Komarov--and Martin for that matter--are great for that.

6:43
How can the Rangers maximize all this cap space? What contracts can they take on paired with assets or what can they get from TB to serve as a conduit for Karlsson?
Gavin Lee
6:43
Wouldn't bringing back Ryan Callahan be a fun circumstance?
6:44
They should be looking at all options like the one involved in the Karlsson deal, to use their cap space as a catalyst for other teams.
6:45
The Hossa contract looks like it's on the move this summer which is another one.
Just note that by doing things like this, you almost never secure big assets.
More like mid or late round picks that they can add to the rebuild.
6:46
Though, I'm not really sure how long the rebuild in New York is going to take.
They have some prospects about to mature.

6:46
Any market in the south east that you could see getting a team? Atlanta failed but has taken to mls.. so maybe it could be worth a second look? Jacksonville, Charlotte etc.
Gavin Lee
6:46
I'd have to put my money on Houston next, but I'm not sure if there will be a real appetite to expand again quickly after Seattle.
6:47
There are definitely markets in the southeast that the NHL would love to go into, like the ones listed, but there would need to be a stable group of investors probing right now, and a real arena proposal before anything even got started.

If the lightning get Karlsson does the mean kucherov cant get resigned
Gavin Lee
6:48
It very much doesn't which is incredible and a testament to Yzerman's work over the last few years.
If you look at the deals for Stamkos, Hedman and McDonagh, there is probably a full Kucherov contract in the combined savings from what they could have received on the open market.
6:49
It's not like the pipeline is slowing down for the Lightning either.
They have plenty more prospects coming to backfill on entry-level deals.
