Sekera going down is the last thing Edmonton needed.
I imagine they're hoping beyond hope that Evan Bouchard is ready right away.
But that's a really tough ask.

The thing is there's almost nothing left in free agency, and they don't have any money anyway.
Signing Alexei Emelin or Paul Martin or Luca Sbisa isn't going to fix anything.
They can't trade prospects for a big name.

I think Owen Tippett can make an impact for Florida this year. Wouldn't be surprised if Kieffer Bellows blows away some folks at Islanders camp.

Even if you think Tkachuk is worse, that doesn't have anything to do with the decision.

I've said it before. At this point in time, the chances that Ottawa's pick is first overall next season are extremely slim.
Even if they do finish last, they only have like a 20% chance of picking first.

There is absolutely no guarantee they finish last, I'd actually probably bet against it if you give me the field.
So, you take fourth and hope that Tkachuk (or whoever you pick) is as good as whoever you would have gotten, and that he's in your system a year earlier.
I think they made the right decision, even if it turns out poorly.
