Hey folks, welcome to another live chat.
I'll let some stuff roll in and we'll get started in a few minutes.

So here we are in late August and the Pens still have a bunch of centers, what gives?
Gavin Lee
6:09
They do, don't they. I don't think the Penguins are worried about going into the season with the group they have, since Brassard and Sheahan both have experience on the wing.
6:10
It feels like an overcorrection after struggling to find depth there last season, but you don't need to rush to make a move just to fit Matt Cullen into the lineup.
Things will sort themselves out in training camp.
A GOAT named Crosby

Do the Pens still need defensive depth?
Gavin Lee
6:11
Personally I don't love the Jack Johnson move, but that's the one they made.
They have a fine seven-man group going into the season.

Where is Erik Karlsson going and what will the Sens get?
Gavin Lee
6:12
Latest has him against signing an extension in Canada, so that would limit his landing spots somewhat.
I'm not so sure that if a Canadian team offered a big package to Ottawa, and an $88MM contract to Karlsson the deal wouldn't get done, but that's where we are.
He'll get a big, big package if there is an extension involved.

Is Max Pacioretty traded before the season starts?
Gavin Lee
6:13
I'm coming around to the idea that he'll start the year in Montreal actually.
There's obviously a deal to be made there, if he's not going to be signed to an extension.
But that Skinner deal set a market that isn't all that appealing for Montreal.
Canes D

Hey Gavin
Gavin Lee

Hey Canes D.
Canes D
6:14
what is going on with the Canes D situation and their offence? They traded away a good scoring forward, signed solid D free agents, but never addressed the forward depth or lack of scoring. What gives?
Gavin Lee
6:14
I think people in Carolina might be overlooking the addition of Andrei Svechnikov.
6:15
He is an absolute stud, that I had extremely close with Rasmus Dahlin as the best prospect available this season.
Add in a more experienced Martin Necas, a versatile Micheal Ferland and more youth coming and the Hurricanes might have a better offense than people give them credit for.
6:16
They have too many defensemen, that's for sure. The idea of having one of van Riemsdyk or Fleury sitting doesn't make much sense, but that's assuming everyone is healthy
6:17
I'd still put Faulk as likely to be moved, but it's not like they desperately need to rid themselves of a deep defense corps.
Pawtucket
6:17
Are the Buffalo Sabres for real? Will we see a massive improvement or a modest one (or any?). Can Hutton deliver?
Gavin Lee
6:18
I think they're being hyped up a little too much recently, but they will definitely be improved.
I'm not sold on the goaltending duo being elite, but it should at least give them average play. The thing is that Robin Lehner was a talented goalie that was hung out to dry too often by a bad defense corps.
6:19
The idea that Dahlin is going to step in and turn things around on the blue line is foolish.
They'll be better, but I don't think they're contenders yet.

whos the next fa to sign?
Gavin Lee
6:20
Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to unrestricted free agents. Seems like no one wants to give out one-way deals to any of them.
6:21
But in terms of RFAs, I'd think that Hanifin's deal is done pretty soon and the Jets are slowly working their way through the list.

What can Max Domi do for the Habs this year?
Gavin Lee
6:22
Domi is an interesting one for me, because I don't think he's the nine-goal player he has been, but I also don't know if there is true 60-point upside in him on a contending team.
Not that Montreal is that, but I don't really trust him as a high level top-six winger in the NHL.
For the Canadiens though, he's going to get a ton of powerplay time and likely a position next to very good players.
6:23
That could easily result in something like 15-18 goals and 50-55 points.
Blues Fan
6:24
What did you think of the Blues moves in the off season?
Gavin Lee
6:24
I'm actually not as high on them as many seem to be. Bozak and Perron are okay players, but they don't really move the needle for me.
