I attend hockey games very regularly, at various levels.
I think analytics have always been part of hockey, they're just getting better and better.
+/- was an early attempt at analytics.

We just have better methodology now, and can analyze things in more detail given the data collection methods we've created.

I don't think there needs to be a battle between the two sides.
Cody Franson posts good shot numbers. He also struggles to skate backwards and defend the rush.
Let's look at how we can maximize his effectiveness knowing those two things. If we can't hide his faults and show off his strengths well enough, maybe he's not the player for us.

I think they should move Glendening if they can regardless of cap situation.
The problem for the Wings is all the no-trade clauses they give out.
Why the heck does Thomas Vanek have a no-trade clause.

Honestly though they don't need to make a move necessarily anymore. They can work with LTIR to be cap compliant.
Zetterberg's injury gives them lots of flexibility.

I think the Coyotes will be fighting for a spot, but I'm not at all saying they get in for sure.
I was very bullish on Calgary last summer, and I think they can still be a really good team.
The Mike Smith scenario is scary.
Edmonton HAS to bounce back but I just don't see a really strong path to a division spot for them.
