6:08
Hey folks, and welcome to another live chat!
6:09
I'm flying solo tonight so this likely will be a fairly short chat, and it may have to abruptly end should something big go down.
But, for now let's go! I'll let a few questions/comments roll in and get started in a few minutes.
Oh no!
6:14
Way too small a sample size, but should the Pens be worried about Murray's performance?
Gavin Lee
6:14
I'd be much more worried about the effects of his third (reported) concussion.
6:15
But that's why the team still has DeSmith and Jarry around.
6:16
The interesting thing will be what happens when it comes to contract time for Murray.
He had a start to his career that you can only dream about, but if this year is a mix of injuries and inconsistency....\

6:16
Any chance the pens go out and get a veteran goalie with Murray injured?
Gavin Lee
6:16
I very much doubt this though, because he was already back on the ice.
6:17
He's not dressing--Jarry will back up DeSmith--but he'll be back before long.
No need to go out and get someone for now.

Maata is a healthy scratch????? Is it possible he looks bad because he is next to Jack Johnson?
Gavin Lee
6:17
It's Penguins night here at the PHR Live Chat.
That's possible, but it's not like we haven't seen episodes of struggle from Maatta before.
At his worst, his footspeed isn't good enough to keep up in the NHL and he's often exposed for it.
6:18
At his best, his decision making can hide any deficiencies and he looks like a good top 4 option.
He's got to get back to that, and maybe carry a little bit more of the weight with Johnson around.
Riikkola's emergence didn't help.

Ottawa has let up 20 goals, but even more surprising is that they have scored 15! How?
Gavin Lee
6:18
Mark Stone is a very good player.
6:19
He has absolutely dominated possession in his first few games.
He's carrying a heavier load than ever, and making his way up the mountain just fine.
6:20
I can't imagine what his next contract is going to look like.
6:22
Even if you're not big into advanced stats, think about this. Stone has started more in the defensive zone than any other forward on the Senators, and yet his team has out shot (attempted) the opponents 73-55 with him on the ice.
6:23
Wingers don't always have a huge impact at both ends of the rink, but he really does for the Sens.

Is this the year Vegas looks like a more traditional expansion team?
Gavin Lee
6:23
I'm not sure they'll ever look like a "traditional" expansion team, but it won't be a walk like it was last season.
6:24
Getting Schmidt back will be a big boost though, and if Stastny can get back before long he'll help too.

Thoughts on the Ducks rookies so far?
Gavin Lee
6:25
Is this a veiled attempt to make me compliment Sam Steel?
They've been okay. What can I say, I still don't see him as a viable NHL option, but the team certainly does.
6:26
Lundestrom though looked pretty sharp. Comtois has had moments, though I have never loved his game and it's starting to show again.
Troy Terry looks lost out there at times.
6:27
A patented shootout goal would've been nice, but apparently he didn't watch the first shooter...
Gary B's toupee
6:27
Biggest surprise so far?
Gavin Lee
6:27
How about that 43-save Mike Smith shutout.
6:29
Shattenkirk getting benched is another one.
Brian Wang
6:38
Which players are playing over their heads right now?
Gavin Lee
6:39
I think some people are jumping to conclusions on some young defenders a little prematurely.
